Congrats! When i go to the OB its always a relief to know that everything is going well. I too hate pre-natals they just make me sick thinking about them!
Sounds great! Just be sure to double check your vitamins. I started taking those Gummy ones everybody raves about, then noticed after being completely wiped out with exhaustion for over a month that they don't have ANY iron or calcium!! That's 2 of the big 3 prenatal vitamins needed! Gee, thanks manufacturers!
Can I ask why you don't like prenatals. I just started taking them and I'm wondering if I'm going to have issues.
Honestly I haven't even tried taking them with this pregnancy, my Dr. says with what I'm taking I don't need to. Sometimes vitamins don't sit well with me and I don't really want to get sick if I don't have to. I made sure that I was getting what I needed from them yesterday though.
I will check on the the iron and calcium, it seems like I can't get enough sleep lately...
I know this is pretty common knowledge, but I just wanted to add a friendly reminder to check the amount of folic acid you're getting from your vitamins as well!
It's suggested that pregnant woman get at least 600ug per day from their supplement. If your vitamins don't have enough - then you can buy tablets that are JUST folic acid to add to your daily vitamin regimen :)
Also - I've found that it really depends on the type of prenatals as to whether they affect the stomach or not. Then again, I haven't been pregnant yet - so I haven't had to deal with morning sickness while taking vitamins!! Perhaps the kind I take now won't agree with me once I finally do become pregnant ;)
I'm curious about the regular vitamins too. It has been my understanding that you need prenatals for the extra iron and especially the folic acid. I take prenatals and don't have any problems. Great for your hair and nails, too! :)
That's great your appt. went well! Sorry your husband couldn't be there. Hopefully, he can go with you for the next one!!
Just a bit advice on the calcium -- do drink your glass of milk everyday! Your body doesn't absorb calcium as well in pill form. Your baby will need a lot of calcium to form those strong bones. If you don't have enough calcium intake, then the baby will extract the calcium from your bones.
@StbHisMrs: I'm lactose intolerant too! I was really surprised that milk didn't have the usual effect on my body. At first I would drink a glass with a lactaid pill, but it got to the point where I didn't have to anymore.
I will have to give those a try again, I use to take them when I was really really young, they didn't help all that much that I remember. What did help me was papaya pills, but I read somewhere you can't have papaya while pregnant. I'll give lactaid pills again, thanks for jogging my memory!
I do eat quite a bit of cheese, and I found some lactose free yogurts at Whole Foods that I'd like to try. I'm dying to try a smoothie recipe but it needs yogurt and that kills my stomach!

I had my 3rd appointment this morning, and I was absolutely not expecting a full pelvic exam! The cool thing about that was he took my hand and said feel this - it was my uterus! I guess he pushed it up towards my abdomen and it was the oddest feeling! Then I got to listen to the healthy heartbeat at 160 again! My husband wasn't able to make it, he was called to take a train up to Seattle yesterday :( I really hope the railroad understands that he IS laying off on the week before and after the baby is born HA! yeah right!
All was well, said I have a perfectly healthy pregnancy and to keep doing what I'm doing. I'm thankful he's against pre-natals and reccomends Gummi-Vites or a regular multi-vitamin with a Vitamin C. I hate pre-natals :x
