I am using white paper "lunch bag" type bags, but they are smaller than the average lunch bag. I am hoping this size will deter people from going "hog wild."
I have read posts from other people suggesting a 1/2 pound of candy per person, which sounds like a lot ...
I used the half pound coffee bags, that actually isn't all that much candy per person - anything smaller wouldn't really allow peopel to take much!!! I doubt that 1/2 coffee bag fits anywhere near 1/2 candy since candy is not as dense
the bigger the bag, the more people will likely take. this isn't necessarily because people are greedy (though that is sometimes the case) - it's just a relfex to fill up a container. if big bags are provided, people may assume that you intended for them to take a lot.
the size of bag you provide indicates what you feel is appropriate for people to take. to get a reasonable sense, pick up some candy that you will include (or that is close to the included candy) and fill up various bags to get to see how much they hold. when you have the bag that holds what you think is a reasonable amount, go with that. i'm terrible at guessing amounts without physically experiencing them, so these trials are very helpful for me. :)
Okay, so I want to use one of the bags at this link, but I'm not sure what size to use. Any suggestions? Or if someone has a link to the bags they used, let me know.
I would definitely go with the smallest size on next to smallest on that site. I was at a wedding a couple weeks ago and they had cellophane bags - about 4" x 6". People were filling them to the brim. Long before dinner even started nearly all of the candy was gone. So you need to think about if you want it to last into the evening or not.
Wow, I guess you're right. I hadn't thought of that. My daughter (the bride) wondered if we shouldn't just fill up the bags ourselves with an assortment and hand them out at the end to keep down the stampede to the candy.
A lot of people do suggest a 1/2 lb. I guess it depends on what else you might have. We will be having cookies, fudge, and cake , so I'm probably going to go with 1/4 lb bags and just get 2x as many. That way people can use them to take home leftover fudge and cookies (which my family would do anyway), but hopefully they won't overdo it on the candy buffet itself.
What size bags should we use for our candy buffet? Also, how much candy should we average per person? Thanks!
