I am searching for a bridesmaid dress for my outdoor, fairly casual wedding on May 2nd, 2009. The guys are wearing black suits. Our colors are dove grey, pistachio green and rose pink. I'm getting mixed reviews from my bridesmaids, that this doesn't look 'bridal' enough. What do you think?
FYI:This dress is on sale for $94 down from $140 at Macy's til midnight tomorrow so I need to make a decision, soon! :)
Hmm. I have to say that I agree with your girls; that's more of a suiting dress that I might wear to work as opposed to a party dress, especially for a May wedding. But I'm sure your girls really appreciate you trying to get a good deal for them!
Can I ask what about it you liked, other than the color or the price?
I'd say if you're getting mixed reviews from your bridesmaids, then they don't like it. See if they will help you find something else that they may like a little better. OR.....my favorite, pick the color and let them pick the style. I hate all of the bridesmaid dresses in my closet because they aren't good for my body (tall, thin, no boobs). If I'd been able to pick the style, I'd have nothing to complain about...even if one of the dresses is seafoam green and another one is grape purple.
Personally, I love them-- I would totally be able to wear something like that again (even to work). It is a much more tailored look than typical BM dresses, but how stereotypically "bridal" you want your party to look is totally up to you. It reminds me of BMS who all wear little black dresses-- very sophisticated, though not very summery. They will look more bridal with bouquets, and the neutral gray will make the flowers pop.
Anyway, why would a BM complain about a dress not being bridal enough? Most BM dresses are fugly by tradition.

So far the bridesmaid votes are: Love it; I'll wear whatever (she wouldn't say otherwise); Love it; not wedding-y enough; and "my boobs aren't big enough".
While I do LOVE a bargain, I love grey and the deep v-neck more... (see my frequent stalking of Pronovias Diamante and Casablanca 1831!) Also, I HATE am not wild about satin (which many of the mix-and-match styles are).
What do ya'll think about removing the belt and giving it a silk sash?
PS- anyone else think WB is the best place to bounce ideas around?? :D
They do look very business-like to me...lose the belt for sure. Although i think that a sash wouldn't go well with the fabric either. My personal vote is no, but wothout the belt and with a dressier shoe, add jewelry and flowers and it could do. I LOVE the neckline. Great color scheme! Good luck!

I don't really subscribe to the whole "Bridesmaid look" for BM dresses... er, I don't think that everyone should have to follow some sort of set bridesmaid trend (in the 80s it was puffy sleeves, 1-2 years ago it was the bubble skirt, etc, etc). I say if you think this dress fits your event and you think you have enough consensus from your BMs, then go for it.
Sounds to me like you have 1 objection based on body shape & 1 based on style... Do you think that's as close as you're going to get on consensus on any 1 dress for your group?
To answer the above questions: I think it does fit the event. and 2 objections out of 7 isn't too bad. (and the objections are my and FI's sisters/co-maids of honor!)

if you like and your ladies also like it (or like it well enough), then go for it. i like it especially because it's not as traditionally wedding-y. you can wed it up with a ribbon belt, perhaps a brooch.
I think it's fabulous, actually!! I would love to find something this simple for my girlies. I love that it's not satin and completely agree with your opinion on that fabric. Also, I think that ditching the belt and adding something else would really dress it up. That said, maybe a ribbon would be too flimsy with the structured look and fabric of the dress. What about going on etsy and using their "alchemy" function (which TOTALLY KICKS A$$!) and seeing if someone could make belts for the dresses, in a different colour? Maybe they could even do sparkly or pearly belt buckles, too! With a matching pashmina, flowers, and hot shoes, I think that this would be a stunning, re-wearable, and totally classic look for your girls. If they like it, go for it! :)

I think making it more "bridal" means making it unwearable afterwards. You won't be able to please all the girls and 94 is a great deal. I say do it.
I really like it. When I saw the dress, I was immediately reminded of this wedding that has been featured on a couple of different blogs. If you look at the bride's outfit, it doesn't look overly "bridal" yet somehow it all works together. I think you could do the same with those very cute dresses. I'm imagining them with a definitely casual vibe, probably vintage, maybe a little funky? Not sure why but when I see it those adorable bird themes keep popping into my head. Anyway, I say go for it, I think they're cute dresses and I think they will look lovely with your color scheme.

However, it does look very much like business attire. Perhaps replacing the belt with a ribbon or sash might make it look more like a party dress.
