I won't bore you with the lengthy details so long story short--I decided to let all my bridesmaids select the style of dress they would like to wear on the condition that it is from the same company, satin, full length, and eggplant. I feel that one of the dresses does not fit in well with the others. Can you guess which one? I'm trying to determine if others can tell that this particular dress is out of place or if its all in my head. Here is what they selected:
To me the third one seems different than the others, but I don't think it would look bad. As long as they're all the same color I think it would look fine.
Well, the third one is strapless and I agree that it's a very different shape... but if that's that particular friend's style and she likes it, then I don't know if you can necessarily go back on your original guidelines. If you feel really uncomfortable with it, you could tell her that everyone else picked dresses with straps and that you'd prefer she find something a little more similar.
I think they are all fine! Honestly, that was the point of setting parameters, they will all be the same colour and all long. I dont see how you can possibly say anything without offending someone. I think they will all be great, let it go-even tho I really dont know which one you had an issue with.
I agree with Ju. They all look fine to me, and I think they compliment each other nicely. I allowed my BMs to do the same thing from Jim Hjelm, and coincidentally enough, 1 picked 5782 and 1 picked 5772 too! Guess they're popular styles.
they all look fine. and b/c they are the same fabric/color they all go well. if you are considering telling one of the bridesmaids she can't wear the one she picked then I would suggest against it. It would definitely be bridezilla territory.
I think you're probably thinking the third is out of place, but I actually find the fifth one to be a bit off, in terms of its more dated style. I'm sure no one will notice that one is 'off' anyway, especially if they're the same shade and fabric. It will be fine!
Thanks for all of your comments. The dresses are already ordered so I won't/ can't go back on my promise of letting them pick the dress they want. The dress that I thought was a little off was dress number 5. I'm hoping that with all the dresses being the same color, length, and material that it will be fine. I just need to stop obsessing :)
I guess the 3rd one jarred me right away because the first two were so similar, then the 4th one did, because I didn't like it compared to the 1st and 2nd which where also v-necks. The 5th one is kind of different as well, but I think the shirring ties it to the shirring on the other dresses. anyway, the variety is spread out enough that I don't think any one person with stick out like a sore thumb or anything.
I think that the fifth dress looks different because the waist is so high, especially in comparison with the mermaid style. But I was looking at the styles for the differences, and on the wedding day people wont really notice... since the color and fabric will all be the same it should all work together.
to me, both the third and the fifth stand apart, but in the same color and fabric, there will be enough similarity to pull everything together. the dresses have been ordered and all fit your requirements, so you can't really complain/change anything. on the day of, people will be looking at you, not thinking about which bridesmaid's dress isn't like the others. :)
I think the third sticks out but its ok because so does the last, since they are both boxie they will compliment each other so it will be fine. I think you should stick to what makes them comfortable and be glad that they all have good taste.
I think your bridesmaids probably think you're awesome because you're not picking the dress for them and are letting them express their own styles. I would have LOVED if ANY of my friends would have done this. And I would have been PISSED if they told me I couldn't wear what I picked out. That's basically saying I have bad taste! I think they all look good, and the whole point of it was so they'd get to pick their own style, right? Plus, it'll be obvious to guests that you gave them some freedom and the style will be on them, not you.

posted by FutureMrs 153 posts 2 months agoThe third one by far - the others are beautiful long column dresses and the mermaid just doesn't belong.
By the way, I'm now singing that Sesame Street "Which one of these doesn't belong" song in my head.
