I am looking for an officiant in the OC area. Does anyone have a sense of how much it costs to hire an officiant? We are looking for someone who is non-religious, as my fiancee and I are different religions and would like someone neutral.
There is a HUGE spectrum of pricing/fees for officiants, especially in Southern California. Some will charge you on a donation-only basis; or per service rendered, or by the package/all inclusive.
As a non-denominational officiant, i had to research how much to charge for my own services, and i found the range is typically between $200-500...
You may want to consider whether the officiant will charge separately or inclusively for the following:
REHEARSAL
TRAVEL/MILEAGE
PERFORMANCE/OFFICIATING
FILING OF DOCUMENTS
WAITING TIME, IF ANY
i like how you are seeking a 'neutral' officiant, BTW! Make sure that whoever you hire is not going to surprise you by throwing in any impromptu sermons or prayers. If you have any further questions, please email me privately at wwwDOTceremonyceremonyDOTcom.
I had the same situation as you. We wanted a spiritual but non-denominational ceremony that was personal and intimate. We found the best solution for us was to have a close friend officiate. He took an easy online course that cost I think $25 to become a "licensed officiant" in the state of California and was then able to legally marry us. Just something else to consider!
