so i was wondering if any of you pretty ladies out there had any good tips on where to begin on making your own save the dates. of course i want to do it as cheap as possible. but still very cute and classy! what i want to do is have a card thats just the size of a 5 by 7 put a few pictures on it with us holding signs, maybe a cute design, and a few short sentences. what program do i use to make something like this? and where do i take it to print it? please help me girls!
If you are hoping to mail them at a postcard rate the size of the STD cannot be bigger than 4 1/2" x 6 1/2" (so, almost 5"x7" but not quite.) I used Photoshop Elements to make mine. It's a pared down version of Photoshop made for home use and costs under $100 to buy. You can also download a free, one-month trial at Adobe's website. I'm just going to print mine at home but you could get them printed at Kinko's. Also, I've heard other brides talk about using Vista print (www.vistaprint.com). I just checked their site and you can get 100 postcards printed starting at $24.99 (I think it's an extra $4.99 to upload your own design and more if you want color on both sides.) Heck, now that I just saw that maybe I'll use vista print too, it will certainly be cheaper than buying my own ink and paper!
I used www.vistaprint.com and got 100 save the dates designed by myself for about $9. I also did it when they were having one of their sales/free postcards. They turned out GREAT and Fi even likes them (even tho he says he doesn't care what I pick as long as he gets a say in the music ).
I'm using VistaPrint as well. If you decide to go with them, I would suggest googling "vistaprint free" or "vistaprint coupon" first. There's almost always a coupon link to follow that will either get you 100 postcards for the price of shipping or 50% off. Also, VistaPrint has some templates for use with Adobe that you may want to download and use, especially if you'll be working with bleeds, to make sure your document size is correct.
Photoshop and Illustrator are both great for making the STDs and invites. Some other options if you don't have those might be: OmniGraffle (it's really for wireframes, but if you have a Mac, it probably came with it so you wouldn't incur a software cost);Publisher (PC); or Pages (Mac).
I'm doing my std's myself using one of the photoshop softwares and using Avery's magnet sheets to print on them for the 'frig... but I'm also using Vistaprint for other DIY wedding projects. Sign up at vistaprint.com and they'll bombard you with many, many, many coupons!! Although most of the time I hate bunches of emails but this website is the way to go! Most of everything is free, just pay for lil extras that you want and shipping (~$10 and that's all!)
wow sounds like vistaprint is the way to go! im going to go check it out now! can you download your own pictures on your design or do you have to send it in somewhere? and do they send your stds to you? or do you pick them up somewhere? im clueless! thanks for the help girls.
