So, I ordered my dress from a really nice bridal salon in North Vancouver, BC. back in September 2012…the whole process of finding a dress was not at all stressful, the consultant was really nice, and the estimated time of arrival was 6 months. The consultant said I don’t have to worry since I started so early, and my wedding isn’t till August 2013, so even less reasons to worry.
Fast forward to mid-May 2013, I was wrapping up wedding planning and starting to recheck the details, and realized “hey, it’s been like 8 months…maybe I should check on the dress”.
Well, the salon consultant was pretty nice on email (never got around to call, I prefer email to keep documented records). She said that the designer recieved lots of orders this year and are now producing based on wedding dates, she estimates that the dress should come in no less than a month before the wedding, which should give me enough time to alter (I do have to alter, I’m petite…)
My mother and I went in to see the sample again so we can get a start on finding accessories without the dress yet, which is fine. the consultant was again very nice, and while I was little stressed internally I had a very good experience. The consultant said she hopes to be calling me soon when the dress arrives, she expressed that hopefully it’ll be in June.
Now it’s stepping mid-June, I’m getting a little worried and went on the bee to see how long it usually takes people to get their dresses. most say 6-8 months, very little portion say more than 8 (usually tops out at 9 months)…and I’m hitting that top end. My mom said I should press them harder and start looking for alternatives. To be honest, if I need to find another dress, I don’t want to just find a whatever dress, I still want to look pretty for this important day of my life.
Questions for the bees:
1) Should I be worried or chilled?
2) Should I find an alternative or wait?
3) Advice on how to approach the nice people at the salon, while being respectful and still make the point that I’m getting more and more upset by the week at the situation?
4) For those with experience finding an alternative last minute (especially brides from Vancouver, BC), where did you go? is there any way to still order a dress in being so last minute (or am I stuck with store samples (which are often way way way too big for me)?
Thank you in advance for the advice!
