Color Help

posted 1 month ago in Beehive

Hello Bees!

I'm looking for some Spring wedding color ideas.  We're planning a May wedding and would really like to incorporate orange (preferably burnt orange) because it is my FI's favorite.  I'd prefer something different and bright.  My best friend is doing orange and blue at her nuptials 6 months before ours so I'm apprehensive about doing the same - we have many of the same people attending both weddings.  Orange and grey may be out because grey is not considered an auspiscious color among south asians.  So, any color ideas with blue would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

I just did burnt orange and brown 3 weeks ago, but that's a pretty fall-like combination. What about staying simple and doing white or ivory with burnt orange (go longhorns!)? =) I think it could be beautiful and fresh!

How about orange, light green, light yellow, and light blue? The light colors give it a very springtime feel and the orange will pop.

I was thinking orange and ivory/white/tan too.  :]

burnt orange and pink! Or, check out this link of the "hot" colors in the 1960s -- there's a great orange, and you can match it with pretty much any of the other colors.

If your mind is set on orange, I like the orange and pink idea from kenziegirl. It sounds like it would be really unique together.

But if you're too concerned with clashing with the wedding before yours, maybe go another direction. Think greens, yellows, pinks or a different shade or orange.

My wedding is in May as well. I'm going with a light peridot (green) with burgundy and ivory accents.

Good luck!

I was also going to suggest orange and pink, I've seen some lovely dahlia bouquets with this mix. But I would add in a metallic bronze to add a level of sophistication. click on link below and take a look at Alison and Jason's bridal bouquet.

here is a link to a site that organizes its boards by color.

The orange boards have some really innovative ideas.

I especially like the orange and green.

Also try going to www.colourlovers.com

You can create your own palette and also search for orange palettes.  It is not necessarily a wedding site, but I have found it very useful as I've been trying to decide on my own colors.  I have a couple of palattes I made with orange just for fun.  My user name on the site is "myweddingreport"

The other great thing is after you select the color you can get the exact RGB #s etc if you want to use it for designs on invitations, website etc.  My FI is working on our website and has found it really helpful using that to make sure we are getting the right color.

We did orange and purple this past May, which was lovely and made our photos really pop. We used a bright orange and dark purple as well as lavender - I think the lavender accents helped to soften up the other two colors well. We didn't use burnt orange, but I think it would still work if you used a plummier purple (a la Mrs. Margarita). My photos are posted on the Pics board, if you wanted to see what they looked like.

I recommend looking for orange bouquets & see which ones you are drawn to.  I think a purple and orange could look pretty, but sometimes you can find pretty 2-tone flowers to inspire your 2nd color.

I like the idea of orange and green...like a citrusy green.

You could try a citrus theme-

citrus color pallete

Or an analagous and complimentary theme-

complimentary

Or a split complimentary theme-

split comps

I would also suggest visiting Adobe's Kuler site or Color Schemer's gallery site or has been mentioned before Colourlovers for inspiration.

There are so many colors that go with orange. I really like the orange, pink and chocolate as an accent. It really goes well with the burnt orange your looking to have. I say bright pink, not pastel at all. Have the colors be bright even accent red in if you want too instead of chocolate. Cut out pictures you like and it will come to you. Check all the knot color examples too, in flowers, decor and bm dresses. There are lots of pictures of the palette your looking at.

Thank you, thank you, thank you bees!  I loved all your color ideas.  I was so torn between pink (fuschia) and purple.  After much searching, I've decided on my colors: burnt orange (yes, rebecca go Longhorns!!!), lavender/bright purple, and cymbidium orchid green/clover green.  We're having two ceremonies on one day so we're transitioning from the lighter colors in the morning to the darker/brighter colors in the evening.  I pitched the idea to bigmr.sha and he really liked them.  So, again, thank you bees for helping me out.
