I finally went to check out florists (word to the wise, they don’t want to talk to you 10 days before Christmas) and flipped through some books for inspiration. Talking to the florist, we mentioned that we might like lily of the valley in my bouquet, we were just concerned about whether it’d be in bloom then. The florist says it’s iffy, but more problematic, it’s expensive. I discovered they buy lily of the valley for $40 for 10 stems…and resell it at $12 a stem!
Fortunately my FMIL’s yard is coated with them, so this place apparently is perfectly happy to use whatever we bring to them. I’m figuring we’ll pluck 3-4 stems for every 1 stem we need, just to be safe. Just need to figure out logistics of transporting that weekend with a 2 hour drive, and hoping that they will still be around. (Although within 30 minutes of me telling her about this, Future Mother-In-Law looked up how to delay bloom and has some ideas for it already.) And of course, I need to actually figure out what I want in the rest of the bouquet – thinking white, lots of greens and some blue pops (maybe delphinium) for me. No idea for my maids. And not to panic when I get the quotes.
