I am still in shock that it has actually happened. Really. I have a fiancé – and it happened sooner than I was expecting!
So in January we are going on a cruise, and, well, we have a set budget for everything which makes it difficult for us to get things like clothes (yeah, I know, budget for vaca, but not really clothes) so there are a bunch of things we need. That being said he got a bonus (yay!) for performance last month, so yesterday morning I texted him at work and told him we each have $x to spend on some clothes and he asks me when I wanted to go shopping, so I asked him when he was done work. He tells me 4 p.m. and I tell him okay, well meet me at a certain area of town after I am done work. He then tells me that I should come downtown (where he works) and I argue that the store that I specifically want to go to is in that area and there are more places to eat. He keeps on being stubborn and tells me that he has a review call with his boss between 4 and 4:30 now, so I tell him fine and I would meet him at his work.
I got changed into my stretch pants (I was wearing a skirt suit – I usually just show up in what I have worn to work but it was -3 so too cold for a skirt) and leave work early (430) since my boss is away and get to his place of work and ask one of his employee’s if he is arund/ready to go. The employee goes to the back and comes out telling me that he was just getting changed. So I waited for what seemed like a long time (15 minutes or something).
We leave and he tells me that he wants to go to dinner at some place near where his mom used to work and this is how our conversation goes as we are walking:
HIM: You remember where my mom used to work?
HIM: At _ building on Sparks. It’s near there, but I don’t remember what it is called.
ME: Oh okay.
HIM: Oh, it’s too difficult. Let’s just go to the diner.
ME: Sure, I’m just really hungry right now.
As we turn around he takes me toward the Chateau Laurier and toward the steps that goes down to Major’s Hill Park
ME: You’re joking right? This is the long way! I’m cold and I’m hungry.
HIM: No, it’s just as fast, let’s go this way.
ME: Okay, fine.
So we walk and get to the path where you could either go to the Market (where the diner is) and left to a lookout. He makes a comment about how he threw a snowball at me on our first date at a certain place in the park. Further down the path I comment on how there is a couple getting engagement shots done. He leads to the lookout where you can see the Parlaiment building and across the river to the other city and the sun is blinding me.
ME: I’m really cold and I’m hungry and you are making us stop
HIM: Isn’t the sunset so pretty?
ME: I cannot really see because it is so blinding and I’m really cold. Can we go now?
At this point he took out this massive ring box (I’ll have to post a photo of it later because it really is the biggest ring box I had ever seen) and gets down on one knee. He tells me that I make him happy and he wants to spend the rest of his life with me. I was in shock and couldn’t speak but I nodded yes. Then he tells me we are not eating at the diner, but at this really nice restaurant.
Haha oh looking back I gave him a hard time but I was so cold and hungry! Worth it though! Showing up to the restaurant in what I was wearing was quite embarassing though haha. But he did an amazing job at picking out the perfect ring for me. I am not one that cares about the designer (I never said I wanted a Mark Schneider or a Tacori or a whatever kind of ring) but about the band and a smaller stone (I actually told him that I don’t want something larger than a .33 because it isn’t “me” – it ended up being a .37 haha) and I would be happy if it sparkled. Well, he listened and ended up getting me something I love, which happens to be a Tacori (something he happens to be proud of, but I am just happy with how it looks). Below is a photo of the ring:
So weird to think that we are actually engaged!
He actually told me that he’d had the ring for over a month and it took forever. He had to wait a week for the daimond to come in after it came, then it had to be sent to Tacori which took a month to make it! He also told me that he had attempted to propose like three times before!
But … we are engaged now!
