Commenting to follow. I’m interested as well! Lots of etsy and ebay sellers sell filled jewelry at great prices but I’m a little worried about how long they’ll remain nice looking.

the gold is practically wrapped around the metal instead of dipped, so basically it has thicker gold. It’ll will definitely last longer than gold plated, but I’m not sure for how long. If you’re just gonna use it as a fashion accessory then it’s not bad, but of you want it to last for a very long time then you might want something that’s at least 14k gold.

From Wikipedia:

“Gold-filled items, even with daily wear, can last five to 30 years but will eventually wear through. The gold layer on gold-plated jewelry varies greatly depending on manufacturer, so there is no single, simple comparison.

Gold-filled items are 50 to 100,000 times thicker than regular gold plating, and 17 to 25,000 times thicker than heavy gold electroplate.”

Maybe it would be useful to ask how thick her particular gold filling is and do some research to figure out how that compares to the typical thickness of gold plating.

AwkwardCoconut:  I don’t have rings, but I have a gold filled bracelet that I have worn daily, as in washed in it, worn while working out and haven’t noticed it fade since I got it.  And I’ve worn it for a month now.  Not too sure on yearly but so far it’s really held up and it was a cheaper alternative than actual rose gold
