It’s taken me a few days to log back online to share my story but I wanted to share it here as you’ve all been a good source of support for me while I was waiting.
Late last week, my boyfriend and I flew to Paris to kick off a 10 day tour of France . We love to travel but had decided to wait until September because the summer months were so busy for us. On Saturday, September 7th, we landed in Paris. We started the day with a croissant making class (yum!) and followed it up with a leisurely lunch. Afterwards, my boyfriend suggested we walk over to the Pont des Arts which is a lovers bridge between Notre Dame cathedral and the Louvre museum. For years, people have brought their own loconnect lock onto the bridge. The tradition is to lock the lock with your lover and to toss the key together into the Seine River just below.
We walked over to the bridge together and the sight of thousands of locks, all inscribed, was really breathtaking. My boyfriend asked if I wanted to participate in this tradition as well. I said yes and he kneeled down and said “well, I got you something” and retrieved a gold heart shaped lock out of his travel backpack. He gave me the lock and key and asked me to open it. I tried multiple times with no success. He said that over the course of our relationship, I’ve successfully unlocked his heart and that he realized he did the same to me and that in that way, we make each other very happy. He then grabbed the key and lock from me and unlocked it himself (turns out it was a trick lock). Then we found a spot for our lock and he said “now would you do me the honor of being my wife?”. I screamed “of course!”, the people around us started clapping, and people took photos for us. Then I ugly cried. Lol.
We spent at least an hour after that cuddling on the banks of the Seine river basking in the moment. He then admitted to me that he’d bought the domain rights to www.(my name)(his name).com months ago when he realized I was The One. I love my geek! And I can’t imagine a better way to have gotten engaged!!!
