i took my LO for her 18m check up on Monday and it turns out she has an ear infection
they gave me medicine amoxcillin ( i think thats how its spelled ), she did fine monday and tuesday night but last night she was asleep and woke up throwing a fit, crying, slapping my SO, she didnt want her milk, to be carried or on the bed, it was horrible to see her suffering like this,so i called the advice nurse and they said nothing could be done because it was late, SO finally calmed her down, and my dad bought her some alcanfor ear drops ( a mexican remedy) not sure what they have but they worked and she ended up falling asleep and slept fine just a few whimpers here and there, and a couple of drops that my dad had bought.
im thinking her ear drum must have popped because she was crying really bad, SO wants me to take her to DR, but idk if itll even make a difference if i take her. its her first ear infection DR said she had fluid in her middle ear
so idk what else to do, if to take her to the DR or wait it out, her medication is for 1 days, idk if they’ll give me some actual ear infection drops for her or not, i saw some hyland ear drops that are for toddlers i was thinking of just getting those and waiting it out.
any advice is appreciated thanks!

Here is the information we use:
Look under Home Treatment
Did you give her anything for pain? She can have tylenol or Ibuprofen in a dose for her weight.
The Amoxil is an antibiotic that will take 48-72 hours to really take effect over the infection.
If her eardrum had ruptured they usually have a brief episode of bleeding or other drainage from the ear, then pain relief, because the pressure is relieved.

If her eardrum has popped, she really needs to be taken in! Is she oozing or bleeding from the ear?
Also, when your baby is on antibiotics, it’s probably best that you not mix home remedies that have not been vetted by your doctor with it. It is almost certainly a coincidence that your baby calmed down around the time of the drops. Medication like that simply would not have been able to tame an infection that quickly. It’s more likely that the antibiotics upset your baby’s stomach and that the upset stomach had settled down as the medication was absorbed. (I worked in antibiotic development for several years). I had major ear infections/issues as a child, included popped ear drums. The scar tissue on my ear drums permanently effected my hearing. If you think that has happened, you need to take the baby to the doctor.
Ear drops can NOT penetrate to the middle ear where the infection is, and will NOT help.

Please take your child to the doctor. We on the interent are not doctors and your doctor would know best what to do with your child besides you

Try not giving her milk for a while.. supplement with something else. Cows milk can cause a build up of mucus (ie wax) and it may be taking her little body some time to get used to it. My DD wasn’t sick her entire first year and as soon as I weaned her and got her on cows milk she got an ear infection. She eventually got used to the milk after a little break though.

babies don’t have all their teeth until they are at least 3 years of age. Maybe early stages of 2 year molars are starting to come through.
ETA: Doctor told me to switch between motrin and tylenol every time i gave meds. Ride out the antibiotics until they are gone also.
