Our first anniversary is coming up in two weeks (sidenote: WTH? A year? Already?) and I am absolutely stumped as to what to give my husband.
I’ve made surprise reservations at a restaurant I know he’s been wanting to try, but the cost of the meal means there’s not a lot left over for an extravagant gift.
Anyone have creative ideas for under $50.00?
(I refuse to give him a book. He loves to read and it would fit with the paper tradition but just… No.)

365 little notes in a jar with love messages or funny things written on them for everyday of the next year 🙂

It’s surprising, isn’t it? 🙂 I’m at almost 2 years, and I’m like, “How did that happen?!”
For our first anniversary, I got my husband a star map of the night sky from http://www.indigonight.com. He really loved it, and it looks like they have some options in that price range.
My husband got me a digital picture frame, which he said was “like digital paper.” 🙂 It was perfect for me, though.
Maybe a large print of your favorite wedding picture? Or a scrapbbok of your first year of marriage? You could probably do that on Blurb or Snapfish for under $50.
My dad made a Christmas present for my mom a couple years ago: he filled a vase with 365 little scraps of paper, and on each one he wrote something different; some of them had love quotes, some of them he had written “Why I love you” sentences, and some of them had things like “Go for a mnaicure on me today; you deserve it!” It was very cute.

@teaadntoast: Ahh! I need ideas, too! 3 days for me-yikes. I think I’ve already used any creative ideas over the last few birthdays, holidays, etc. I think I have no creativity left. Crap! Hope people have some good suggestions for us. Happy early Anniversary! 🙂

Thanks mwitter and Mrs. Spring.
I like the love notes idea. Maybe a big ol’ mason jar with pretty craft paper envlopes decorated with punches.
(Who are we kidding? I like this one because it means I get to buy paper craft stuff.)

My first anniversary is this weekend and I totally agree, how did that happen?
I got Darling Husband a Kindle and also made him a book through blurb.com with the e-mails and blog posts through dating, our engagement and our first year together. The book isn’t printed yet, it took a little longer for me to get everything together but I told him it would be a little bit late.

A variation on the note idea sis to do post-it notes. get up before him and plaster them everywhere.
personalized playing cards from Walmart
paper clock from Amazon
combine photo collage with old newspaper clippings etc from his high school or college days- especially if he was a jock

i got Darling Husband a print from etsy. he drew me a picture (he’s a great artist, but only as a hobby) and made an album that we can fill with photos of this year!

These are all really cute ideas! Im already starting to think of this for our anniversary that is 4 months away. Also, dont forget that clocks are the modern version of the tradition.

@PitBulLover: I totally forgot about clocks!!

Mine’s tomorrow (but celebrating today), and I just gave him a card. However, we are planning on going to dinner and a movie today as well. 🙂

We’ve always had a shooting star theme in our relationship…. so I’ve “Named A Star” with our initials and wedding date and written a little poem to him.
