    Hi everyone,

I'm a 1st time bride at 39, and have( like many of us) imagined walking down the aisle with a gorgeous bridal veil.

While trying on dresses invariably the consultants placed veils on me....and...I wasn't sure about the look on me! I love the softness, the penultimate "bridal" look. I love the idea of a long cathedral soft light veil, especially for the pics.  But, is a veil too "young" for late 30's?  Is that why I wasn't sure of the look on me? Should I get on with my age and select something different for my hair, like a few randomly placed crystals or a single white flower?

Love to hear everyone's thoughts on veils post-35. Happy wedding planning everyone!

    Hi there!

I'm a recently married, 39 yr. old.  I wore a fingertip length veil, but chose not to wear it over my face.  I think it looked lovely.  I say GO FOR IT!

    Enjoy!

My opinion:  a veil is not too young for anyone.  However, you should probably only have it hang down behind you.  A blusher that covers your face would probably only make sense on a 20-something bride.

I know some people seem to think that veils is too "young" for a 30-something bride, but I think you should wear whatever makes you feel beautiful on your wedding day.

I am going through the same thoughts. I'll be 45 on my wedding day, and it is my first, too!

I think you should wear whatever makes you feel beautiful. My first fitting is next month, so I plan to try a few different things. I guess personally, I would feel weird about wearing a veil over my face. But, that's me.

    elisslp, GORGEOUS!!!!!

@melisslp: Meliss you look GORGEOUS!!!! ok, you're an inspiration and encouragement to go with a veil.  Really, I found myself wanting to look back at this photo - you're beaming and look so wonderful!

@jenbrandner: Thanks Jen, I agree. If I go with a veil I'd keep it draping behind me rather than over my face.

Kelly - Awwww...thank you SOOOO much for your sweet words!  You are very kind!   I was going to get a cathedral veil at first, since my gown was cathedral length...but, then I decided to borrow my girlfriends fingertip length veil instead.  I actually loved the length!  It wasn't so long that it dragged on the ground, but it didn't cut the back of my gown in half either.

Here's another pic (can you tell I just got them back...heehee):

I say go for it.  You probably look younger than most 29 year olds.  I am 41.  Originally, I had no intention of wearing a veil.  I tried one on to placate my mother but ended up really liking something plain and chapel length.  If I am going to be a bride, I ain't goin' to be half-assed about it:)

@melisslp: awww this dress was so perfect for you! I love love the curve to the back of your dress.  And I see what you are saying - the fingertip length doesn't cut the back feature. So soft and pretty.  Truly an inspiration for us over-35's.  Was that your mom and dad walking you down the aisle? I want to retain the tradition as well.

@Georgia Bee: Thank you Georgia, you're absolutely right: why not the whole experience!? No half-ass bridal look! (except if we're talking cellulite LOL)

Thanks everyone, I'm convinced to go for the veil look I've always dreamed of, wrinkles and shoulder bags be damned!

I think that a veil for your first wedding is absolutly fine but I think a fingertip or elbow length veil worn behind your face is the most appropriate.

Kelly - You are super sweet!  My bucket feels "full" now because of your compliments!  Thank you!  Thank you!   Smile In response to your question, yes, that was a photo of my parents walking me down the aisle to my hubby!  It was an honor to walk down the aisle with both of them.  There were SOOO many emotions...tears and smiles filled with happiness and joy!

Many blessings to you and yours!

I was deadset against wearing a veil because I am an older bride, but my kids insisted and finally convinced me, so I made my own fingertip mantilla veil, and I must say it looks really nice on me with my gown, so I say, if you want to wear one wear one because this will be the only chance you get and you may regret it if you don't.

I'm 32 and wore a short veil that brushed my shoulders.  I just had to find something that fit me.  You'll find one that is right.  I didn't care for most that I saw in the stores and also even mine didn't look as good without hair and make-up done-up.

100% Yes... you are a BRIDE and have every right to wear a veil. When else do we a chance to wear a beautiful veil. I am a 37 year old soon to be first time bride and and I will definitely be wearing a veil.

You are all such inspirations; thank you for the support for wearing a veil. Yay! Beautiful gorgeous feminine veil here we come.

vintage2010 - excellent point - I will find the right veil just as you did (very sassy and perfect btw!) Just have to keep trying different options

I'll be 32, first time bride, and I plan on wearing a veil over my face. Why is wearing it over the face a "young" bride thing? Its a BRIDE thing, period.

I was 45 and wore a cathedral length (longer than my long train even), single tier veil . . . of course it didn't have a blusher.

@vintage2010: I love your veil.  Is it any particular designer/manufacturer.  It is EXACTLY what I want for my dinner/first dance/maybe longer if I can stand it.

I think there are loads of really elegant shortish veils out there that look amazin on brides age 30+  My sister was 31 when she got married and she had a fingertip veil down her back, and not over her face and she lookedbeautiful!  some of the lace styles would be stunning - I think as long as you make it your own and your comfy you'll look perfect.

    Good luck x

I think you should wear whatever you want on your wedding day.  I always thought I would prefer to wear a modest, plain gown if I ever get married but I've found I like all kinds of gowns and I'm not too old to wear any of them!  So I say go for it!

35 yr. old here, encore bride, wore a cathedral length mantilla with all its glory. I loved my veil and doubt that anyone questioned my wearing one or found it inappropriate.

@meliss Oh my goodness! I love your veil, dress, and hair! Very romantic look! I'll also be wearing a lace dress and a single tiered veil, but with a lot less detail (not a mantilla, but I always had those in mind). I'm also an encore bride (but 1st time in a wedding dress) and will be 33. I was planning to have my hair half up, but after seeing your pic, I'm considering leaving it down.

OP, I say go for it! Smile

I had no idea there was a 35+ bride veil rule. LOL!

When I got married at age 38 last year I wore a birdcage/flower combo but I say do whatever you want.

    Congrats!!!
