I have long hair, goes to my bra strap and a strapless dress with a low back.  I would love an updo, but I am uncomfortable with having my back so bare.  I have one mole that bothers me, I should have just gone and gotten it removed.  Now there is no time.  So far I'm leaning towards the half up/down route, but even that doesn't excite me too much.  I'm afraid that the curls will fall before I walk down the aisle and/or that the back will turn into a huge messy nest towards the end of the night.  I wore the first trial for my bachelorette party and it looked great and it did turn into a mess, but it didn't look too bad.  I just don't know...and I can't find any pictures that say "that's it!" to me... my mom said she'd pay for me to get a 3rd trial so I can try one.more.time...  help?

For the third trial I would go with something completely different, that should help to decide if it was the stylist or style that was wrong in the first two.

For the third you should try a total updo, just to see.  Sometimes when we try something we would've never thought of before we end up loving it! I speak from experience (currently in love with a lace dress after I INSISTED I could never see myself wearing one...)

    What about a "bridal ponytail".

    Something like these:

I understand totally what you mean I have thick long (like about an inch or so above my low rise jeans...a bit past my belly button.  An I have a low back dress and thought I would wear my hair super similar to your trials...but my hair is HOT.  Like my FI jokes that even in the summer I wear a sweater...like temp HOT.  So when my hair is curly and down even with a ton of hair spray at the end of the night it's a fuzzy hot mess.

I did an updo and LOVE the way it looks with my dress.  I have a lot of "beauty marks" aka moles and am pretty fair skinned so they really show.  but it doesn't look bad.  Because the dress is so low in the back (like the back is just a little above where my belly button would be in the back.

Here's a pic of my dress with my hair up after my hair trial.  You can see how low it is kind of in the back.  If you look close on the right side you can see my back with hair up.  Forgive the face this lady was poking me with pins all over the place.

It sounds like you have two problems here:

    1. you're unhappy with an exposed back

    2. you're unhappy with your hair down

I think you should decide which is worse and fix that problem. Personally, I've never been offended by a bride with a low-backed dress.

@thrifty - yeah I'm not worried about anyone being offended with my bare back, it's just me being self conscious with it.  Maybe I should just try it though...might make life easier.

I was super self conscious because I have a lot of marks on my back (and a tattoo which some people might take in a whatever way - I like I'm showing it) but I just loved how it looked even with the marks.

No matter what you do, you'll be beautiful!

oh wow, that looks really pretty!  I just thought of an idea that might make this better for me.  I wasn't planning on wearing a veil at all, BUT if I did, that would cover my back during the time that my back is facing every body.  I don't think I'll care too much about my back being exposed once we're at the reception because it just won't be as in their face as it is at the ceremony.  Hmm...wonder if I can find a veil in less than 2 weeks.

Here's a hairdo I loved, but my hair isn't long enough. So it might look great on you! It's mostly all up, but a few pieces are down in the back.

OOOO!  I really like both of those ideas!  Super pretty!  I have a cathedral length veil because I felt similar to you about the ceremony with everyone staring at my back - of course that length wasn't necessary to cover it up.  You should try David's Bridal (if you have one near you) they're typically pretty cheap and in stock!

-Good Luck, let us know what you end up with!

Try to look for pics of people that you know have long hair - I ran into the issue that my stylist was like "yea, Tulip that's super cute and pretty...but you have too much hair for that"  I told her do what she thinks looks good with my dress and a veil on top and I loved it :)  So if you have a good relationship with your stylist maybe bring a few pics you like but ask her what she/he thinks :)

    -Good Luck!  Do update us!

I LOVE the hair style Justeen posted.  It's very unique, and not really curly, so it wouldn't fall like most half up dos do.  Let us know what you decide!

I saw a DIY post on here where someone actually made their own veil by finding a kids veil at the craft store. It might be easier to do something like that because A. It won't cost much  B. It won't take long, and C. You can add your own look to it by adding a barette or something to where it will attach to your hair. If I come across the DIY post again I will be sure to post it.
