We're going on our honeymoon in 5 weeks, but my FI starts a new job in January 2010 once he gets out of the Army in Nov 2009. Since he won't really be able to take vacation for a year, and we're going to try to get pregnant in June 2010...we were talking about how nice it would be to go on a mini vacation in December since likely it'll be a long time before we get a chance to get away again. I'm thinking 2K for the two of us. Yeah, cheap!

Where's a good place to go in December (right after Christmas) for about 5-7 days? I was thinking Cancun? I want somewhere warm...the beach...sun and sand! I get paid vacation for 2 weeks around Christmas and I plan on utilizing that since he won't be working yet.

    Ideas? Thanks!

You might also look into cruises. I know that you can get great deals on them.

Costa Rica isn't to bad priced either if you don't stay in the best of the best hotel. You can rent a jeep and stay in little vacation homes for not a bad price.

Last dec. we went to Cancun with friends to Dreams.  It was the best vacay I wish I could go every year.  it's all inclusive, they have a heated pool, swings by the bar, a hot tub where they serve you champagne and dophins in the lake.  It is so relaxing and wonderful, i can't wait to go back :)  i've been to other all inclusives, but in my mind (and our friends) they don't compare to Dreams.

When I saw the title of your post I immediately thought of Cancun. It is the best vacation I've ever been on and it is affordable and easy to get to!! You will love it.

Ok great! I really don't want to spend more than $2,000.....we aren't going for luxury, just something of a quick little getaway. It just has to be "nice" for us to enjoy it since our HM is 6 months previous. Honestly anywhere nice in december is a welcome break from the midwest crap weather we get!

I've been to Cancun, but went with my parents oh, 8 years ago, LoL. It's fun to go to all those little shops! My FI would probably get a kick out of it.

I would start peaking around websites, like CheapCarribean.com - they may be running promotions and you could get a great steal for that time of year!

The week between Christmas and NYE is just about the most expensive time you can go to the Caribbean. So, maybe choose a non-beach place if you're trying to keep the price down.

Hmmm. Well, I definitely want a beach. Neither of us are avid skiers or anything like that.

I'm guessing b/c it's the only nice place to be that time of year? Is Florida nice in December? haha.

I don't know about Florida, but the cheap carribean website is the best! I know tons of people that use it, and that's how we are planning on booking our honeymoon. Good Luck!

Florida is gooooorgeous in December!  It's my favorite month!  I highly recommend South Florida in December.  The beaches are a lot less crowded and you could do something really nice for $2,000.  That would go pretty far down here for 5 to 7 days.

I agree with buttercup12! We are going to the Mayan Riviera-all inclusive, adults only, six nights for right around $2,000. This area is pretty perfect- you can have your adventure, go shopping, or just lie on the beach all day and have all of the cocktails you want.

Our amazing resort is called the Catalonia Royal Tulum. Check out reviews- amazing white sand beaches! If you are looking for more of a romantic getaway stay away from Cancun- this area can be romantic don't get me wrong, but it's also quite the party destination. I guess it depends on what you are looking for! Good luck planning and make sure you check out lots of reviews before you decide on a place.

Thanks for the ideas, ladies! Im still researching....it looks like anything mid-range (not top of the line but hopefully not so low class we're icked out) is about $2,200. I'll look into S Florida though. I like the idea of not flying all day, and maybe the all inclusive cost would be out weighed. I'll come back and let you all know what we decided to swing.

Oh man. It must be a post-holiday thing. I can't find squat for under $3,000 for a nice place it seems! Maybe we need to consider September as our ideal holiday time!

BTW, we stayed at an Excellence in Punta Cana. Love that all-inclusive adults only package! No kids splashing in the pooL!

DEFINITELY check out Mexico area! Cheapcarribeans.com has great deals! my wedding budget is 3000 and I'm staying under at an all inclusive resort with a hot tub in the room and 5 star dining! If you're just looking for sun sand and QT, I'm sure you can pull it off there! They have great specials too if you're flying before 2010!  Hope it helps!
