Present! Are you from Lexington and having your wedding in NY, or the other way around? I'm from Atlanta but I currently live in Lexington.
Hey ladies! I am from Kentucky as well...born and raised in Campbellsville but lived in Bowling Green for the past 5 years. I just recently moved to my fiances' hometown, Paducah, Kentucky. It is quite an adjustment but a necessary move. Its good to see all of you Kentucky ladies floating on WB!!!! A lot of you are from Lexington and Louisville. That's cool! I looooooove Louisville (and yes, I am a die-hard Cards fan)!!! HA! Enjoy your day friends!
I'm in Kentucky! Wedding is in Texas (where we're from) but we're livin' it up in Louisville!
Yay! So glad to see you all here!
@KMSull - I need to change my cities so that it's a bit clearer! Sorry about that!
I'm living in NYC and am having my wedding in Ky - on a farm near the Red River Gorge! It's going to be small - about 40 to 50 close friends and family. I'm having guests stay in Lexington and am having my rehearsal dinner and day after wedding brunch there too.
@ToyToy10 - How do you like Paducah? Your wedding is so close! You must be excited!
Where are you having your weddings Ladies? Any flower deicisons, entertainment yet?
I'm thinking of pink and green flowers for my floral arrangements but other than that, still thinking of colors.
I originally wanted four of my closest friends to be my BMs but since it's a small wedding anyway, I didn't want to single out any of my friends and make the rest not feel as special. So, I'm having my oldest and closest friend as my MOH and my FI is having his brother or his bf as his Best Man.
I meant bf = best friend
@Mrs Dee to Bee - where in Tx is your wedding? I went to visit FI's family over New Years in Houston and we took a trip to San Antonio and Austin - I am officially in love with Texas! The poeple were so gentile and kind and we had such great food, too.
Hi Kentucky brides! I'm originally from Louisville, I went to college in Lexington, now I live in Boston, MA, and I'm getting married in Louisville this summer.
@Tiger and Pearl...I love the Red River Gorge area. That's going to be so pretty!
... just a thought, but Red River Gorge is about an hour and a half away from Lexington. That's a loooooooong drive after a reception!
@blyelikethat - Welcome! A Louisville wedding this summer is going to be fab-u-lous! More importantly, are you a Wildcats or Cards fan?
Thanks so much - you're so sweet to say that about the ceremony - I love the Gorge too!
@KMSull - yeah, that's a very long drive after the reception! We've hired a coach to drive out of town guests to and from the Gorge area, which is our ceremony and reception site. Hopefully people will be cool with that. We're serving lunch and drinks on the coach so they can build up their strength for the day
It was important for me to have it at my grandparents' cabin and farm close to the Red River Gorge but still have the convenience of Lexington for the airport (lots of our guests are from out of town), accomodations and rehearsal dinner location. We'll see how it goes! Crossing fingers that it will be a fun and relaxing day for all.
Represent! :D I'm an 8.9.10 bride, getting married in Lexington. :) I moved up here from Florida 3yrs ago to be with my FI, who's from the area.
I just commented on the "welcome" post with more detail about me, my FI and our wedding: http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/weekly-welcome-jan-25-feb-1st/page/2#post-670008
Nice to meet everyone! :D
I didnt realize there was a KY board until just now!
I will have my big day in western KY! I haven't officially started planning yet because I am still in the research phase and both of us are trying to figure out what our dream day will look like. My parents reside in Louisville so of course I am a Cards fan and I must also say GO WILDCATS like the rest of the brides! I am glad that I finally found this board!
Hi Miss Moo and SweetNote - so glad you found the Ky Bride Board and WELCOME!
Miss Moo - I want to know about your wedding details - I love love love envisioning them! Who are your vendors and lucky you for getting such a fabulous discount on everything! Go girl! Have you decided on which flowers you want?
SweetNote - Western Ky is so pretty and an October wedding is going to be lovely. Which venue are you looking at as a possibility for your venue? Have you started looking for dresses?
I'm currently looking for dresses and found only a couple that I like. I think I'm going in the direction of non-wedding-gown route. It's an outdoor wedding so simpler the better when it comes to the dress - don't want too many bugs crawling around in the layers
Flower-wise I think I'm going to have pink penoies as my bridal bouquet, and I am even thinking for the reception flowers to incorporate of pink football mums, pink roses, green hydrangea or maybe pink parrot tulips. I'm still sort of deciding right now but my florist is very talented and I can't wait to see what she comes up with. We're decorating the porch on which we're getting married with ferns and other greenery - we want to make it as lush as possible.
Your turn ladies!
@Tiger and Pearl- I have not started planning yet still in the research phase trying to see where i can get more bang for my buck. Plus FI is now saying he wants to have our reception in IN instead of KY where we are having our ceremony. I mean its only 20 minutes but I hate the idea of making our guests travel too much plus worried we will lose somebody in the travel to the reception.
FI went with me to Super Bride Sunday and I was definitely let down. I just thought there would be more vendors. In reality they were all the ones that I read about online! So disappointing since I thought there might be a hidden gem out there.
I am ordering my dress online but not sure if I should go into a bridal store just to try some on and get the feel of it or should I just go to an alterations shop and have them take my measurements since I pretty much know I am buying the dress online.
Sorry for the delay!
What fun!! Sorry I am so late. I am from the Bardstown area (45 minutes from Louisville or Lexington). We are getting married at My Old Kentucky Home State Park and the reception will be on the grounds as well. I ordered my dress at the Wedding Center in Lexington and cannot wait for it to come in! I am using Swans Landing out of Cambellsville for my food, linens, centerpieces and flowers. Our photographer is Ben Keeling out Richmond, he is very talented, so check him out if you don't have a photographer booked. Not sure what we are going to do about music for the wedding yet, but at the reception we are having a local artist, Andrew Scott Newton play. I will post some pics below just so you can get some ideas of colors that we are going with, see my dress and wedding and reception site.
It is fun to hear what others are doing, especially in the same area.
Good luck everyone and congratulations on all of your weddings!
Oh and GO CATS! ;-)

@Tonya2010- I love that dress!! I am leaning more towards a tea length dress also. I just cant cope with the idea of dealing with a long train all night. I am also loving your inspiration board and are you definitely doing caramel apples? I wanted to do cookie table/caramel apples but FI thinks it will be way too many sweets. LOL
Hey! Thanks. I know what you mean, I knew that a long dress would drive me crazy! Especially outside. The designer is Justin Alexander and I know that Shers in Lville has Justin Alexander dresses although did not have the tea length available to try on. That is why I went to Lexington, and then got lucky because they were having a trunk show. Yes, we are doing caramel apples on my cupcake table. I am going to attempt to make them myself the week of. We shall see... =) Not sure what kind of reception you are having, but I am only doing place cards for the reserved tables (wedding party and immediate family) and I thought about doing a caramel apple with a little bow and name tag on the stick. Also I am going to have little plastic bags available so that guests can take the apples with them when they leave. They will kind of second as favors since I am not technically having favors. The apples would be really cute for your October wedding. I see that you are shopping around a bit for vendors. Swans landing is the least expensive I have found as far as food and it is really good. You may want to check out their website.
@Tonya-I have seen the idea of caramel apples for place settings on an inspiration board and it was very cute. When I think of my day I want it to be family, good food and of course dancing! LOL. I will definitely check out their website not for sure if they are in my area though. Mostly what i have found in my research is BBQ restaurants for catering. I dont think there is anything wrong with that at all, but we really want heavy appetizers to have a variety of food that can fit our budget rather than one item.
I love wedding receptions with different appetizers. I love mini everything! =) I know that Swans Landing will come to Louisville because when I met with her she was showing me pics and talking about weddings that she has done in Lville before. Their office is about 30 minutes south of me and I am about 30-45 minutes south of Louisville. So it is really not that far. Everyone areound here uses her because the prices are so great and their food is really good, so it would be worth checking out for sure.
Hey KY brides!
I finally joined WB today after reading for a couple months. Why did I wait to join? Wellllll, it's because I am still waiting to be engaged! But I am hoping that it happens soon and have started to think about the who (besides BF and me), what, when, where, etc. If we get engaged in the next month or so, I would like to have the wedding in September, if we can find a location!
I currently live in Louisville but am from a small town near Lexington and lived in Lexington for 12 years. My BF and his family/friends are from a small town outside Bardstown. I want people to come and have fun and have a place to stay if they want, not have to drive 1 hour + to go home after our reception. But prices in Louisville and even Lexington are a little higher. I've thought about my hometown or Bardstown too.
Tonya2010 - I actually emailed My Old Kentucky Home for info, it's beautiful there!
Great to find a KY board and would love to hear more from you lovely ladies about your plans!
@Kygirl, Welcome girl!!! =) I am actually from Bloomfield (outside of Bardstown) what town is your BF from? I think that My Old Kentucky Home is booked for the entire month of September, and last I heard they had October 2 open. It books up very fast!! They actually already have a lot of dates booked for 2011! So as soon as you know, you need to get on it! LOL! =) I can give you some other ideas for the Bardsown area if you would like.
Hi!! I'm a latecomer but having a Louisville wedding in Sept. I'm originally from Indy but move to the ville for career reasons & met my FI who is from KY. We will be getting married at Gardencourt (sooo pretty) and using the Upper Crust as caterers.

I love this Reem Acra - I think I'm going to do something similar since we'll be outside and it might be warm
Doing Julep cups to represent Derby city :)

@camrie, Beautiful choices!! I love the dresses that you are considering.
@Tonya2010: Thanks much! There's a little bit of an issue around the dress (and me deciding to make it...EKK!) but hopefully it'll be a wedding success story. :)
@Camrie, Funny! I noticed that your wedding date is the weekend before mine, and I was thinking "she better be ordering her dress"! =) It will all work out.
@Tonya2010 - That is funny! I've already order a "back-up" dress (like don't love but will suit).
@Camrie, Well at least you have a back-up just in case the other one doesn't work out.
Well hey yall!! Im live in Louisville but will be getting married in Florida!! At first we were going to get married here at Duncan Memorial Chapel but decided to run off and have a beach wedding.. we are going to have a reception when we return 2 weeks later!!
Hi @mallorynjmf! Where will you have your reception? I looked at pics of Duncan Memorial Chapel but it looks small. Do you know how many it will hold?
@ kentuckygirl...I'm a bride's mom on here...my daughter has been so gracious as to allow me some fun while she finishes two degrees and we plan the wedding and her moving out of state!
I was married at Duncan Memorial in 1987. It is small but very quaint depending on the size ceremony you are wanting. I know it holds 100"ish".

Hi Kentucky Brides!
Are there any 2010 brides out there? I see that our Ky board has been inactive for a while but I would love to chat with fellow brides about wedding details, entertainment, etc.
