Hi there!
I'm getting married in Grafton (which is Southern VT) on Oct. 16, 2010. I would love recommendations for hair and make-up! And if anyone knows of an amazing DJ, let me know!
kateworm: Try the message boards for the Albany area. I am trying to get a DJ too. If I find someone I'll let you know. I saw a recommendation for a salon in Manchester (I'll have to find the name and post later) and my friend recommend The Clip Shop in Bennington (she used them for her Manchester wedding). Bennington might be kind of far for you though. I too need hair and make-up and want them to come to my location which makes it more interesting.
Did you see my info on cakes from Irene Maston in Ludlow? My friend said even the tasting was amazing! Also I know that there is a woman in Bennington that makes them out of a store "Willy's" and I saw pics of her cakes on FBook and they look nice- but no idea on taste.
Are you a Vermonter or just getting married there? Congrats on your wedding!!!!
I'm a Vermont bride, getting married at the end of August, and trying to find a good photographer and florist. The ceremony is actually in Claremont, NH at the Orthodox Church but the reception will be at my house in the Upper Valley. There are two florists in Claremont, so we will probably be able to use one of them. I think we'll use Blood's Catering and Tents for the tent, and perhaps Maple Street Catering for the food (we're doing all hor d'ourves).
Any suggestions on good Upper Valley photographers? We're looking for someone who takes good pictures, rather than someone who makes good enhancements. My fiance is a realist painter and very picky about visual art. But from what I've seen, it may be hard to get a good photographer without paying an arm and a leg.... ($3000 for my favorite guy so far; way too much.)
Hi Ladies!
I just wanted to join the conversation. I am not getting married in Vermont, but am new to the area, and wanted to say "hi"!
Hey Pudding! Welcome.
Ilaria- For my photographer I looked at a nearby metro area- Albany. I ended up asking my cousin who got married in May who she used. I looked at their pics and, since I know all the people, I thought she really caught who they were. My FH called and she was willing to drive the hour 1/2 to my venue! DONE. I think we're paying $1500 (FH did the contract) we get the digits when its done and do the photo printing ourselves.
I am looking now at a Floral Event coordinator...sounds wierd, but apparently someone who does flowers and deco- but not run the event. My venue comes with a day-of person. Anyone else looking at this?
Hi everyone! I am a 2011 bride hoping to get some great ideas from the 2010ers! I have been looking online for ceremony/reception locations, but have not had much luck. Money is definitely an object, which explains why i am struggling. that and the fact i am trying to plan a VT wedding from Colorado. Any/all suggestions are appreciated!! Any unique venue ideas? tips on questions to ask when talking with the venue coordinators? THANK YOU!!
Melisd19I wrote a long response and the computer ate it. Ugh.
Long post made short- I am also ending up in CO and planning a VT wedding.

FH and I are hiring a planner. We didn't plan on it, but are finding out that we need someone local to help us out. My awesome MOH interviewed three for us and we just contacted our choice to see if she's avail.
My MOH's research shows that Vermont weddings tend to be either local and low cost or destination and high cost. We are aiming in between. Local vendors have their client base and don't advertise. They have plenty of talent, but keep costs reasonable for their local business. The ones that advertise tend to push for high end destination weddings.
Your goal is to find the local vendors! You probably won't find in WellWed or Vermont Vows. I recommend searching boards and just googling for florists/bakery etc and contacting them about weddings. Chances are they do them.
Where are you looking to do the wedding? What kind of venue do you want?
I'll share my research on central/southern VT if that is what you are looking for.

Thanks, R2B! That actually makes perfect sense. We are definitely aiming somewhere in the middle of fancy destination wedding and local penny pinching. In terms of location...keeping all options open at this point. I checked out some places near Ludlow/Okemo that i liked. J (fiance) is from Sharon/S. Royalton, but for the most part guests will be out of towners so they will be traveling regardless (i might be underestimating the size of the state). I have only been looking online; if it has "mountain inn" in the title i have probably checked it out. We like the idea of a B&B if we can have the wedding outside. i think it would be a little too cozy inside.
Your MOH sounds amazing!!

How many people are you inviting? I am from Bennington originally and there are lots of venues in SOVT.
Bennington has the Four Chimney's Inn and the Park McCullough House and Arlington and Manchester have B&Bs that do weddings. Just depends on what you are looking for.
Also there is a farm that has a special event site in Bennington and it is really cool!
http://www.colgatepark.com/weddings_colgate_park.html Beautiful views and very Vermont. Only about 40 min from Albany Airport which makes it nice. I actually grew up next door. You are about 1.5 miles from the Monument and Old Bennington.

I'm planning a September 2011 wedding in Vermont (at the Basin Harbor Club) from Colorado.
I would LOVE recommendations for:
(1) a wedding band;
(2) photographer
(3) ON SITE hair and makeup.
Thanks much!

I wanted to open a new chat for all you Vermonters! Of course previous Vermont bride advice is always welcome.
I noticed it is hard to find vendors in the central/southern VT area so any positive feedback/recommendations would be appreciated.
I'm getting married at Stratton Mountain in Winhall VT outside Manchester. I'm from Bennington (born and raised) but now live out of town.
Look forward to hear what you are up to!
