Have you girls gone shopping for the dress yet? And do you feel the need to quickly purchase THE DRESS? My wedding is set for April 2012 so far ive tried on 21 dresses, i know i have a lot of time to find a dress but everytime i hear it take 6-8 mnths for the dress to come in then another few wks to a mnth for alterations i panic cause i feel as if i wont find THE dress and settle for anythng just to say I have a dress....

I'm a March 2012 dress and I've already ordered my dress. I'm also doing a "destination" wedding and live in different states from my mom who I absolutely wanted to be there when I tried on dresses so we were under an odd time-table. I'd say maybe once April hits you can start seriously looking, but then again if you go into a store and fall in love then by all means buy it :)

I would wait till 7 months prior...otherwise you will have dress regret...certain designers take longer than others...Maggie Sottero is one of the faster ones...mine is 3-4 months lead time...

I would get pics online and keep looking for the newest line from designers, then head out shopping at the end of this year....good luck!

I started looking in December, and I didn't expect to find "the" dress so quickly! But the second boutique I went to had my dream dress and I ended up getting it a month later. I kept looking but never found one as perfect...

Finding the dress took a big weight off my shoulders and I feel less stressed about the rest of the details now...we all have plenty of time!

I'm the same as @Evie19:. I was looking for fun and to get a feel of what I liked, and I found THE DRESS. It was in November, I'm a March 2012 bride. It was discontinued, so if I wanted to have that dress, I needed to buy that sample and ASAP. I bought it up, it's being stored at the store until I need alterations, and I'm happy to have it checked off the list.

My date is June 24, 2012, and I bought my dress already!

Like @sdrury89: my mother and I are on separate coasts, and she wanted to be there when I tried on dresses.  We found the "one" when she visited in October, but we hesitated to order because of how far in advance it was.

Well, the dress was discontinued on 1/31/11, so I bought a sample from another salon on eBay for $75!  Now I get to take it out and play dress up whenever I want :)

I'm a June 2012 bride and I haven't even started thinking about a dress yet! I'm planning to start shopping over the summertime. I just know that I'll be a dress regret bride so I'm putting it off for a while.

My date is set for 7-7-12. I have yet to step foot into a dress shop. I hsve a friend who is getting married in 3  months. She purchased her dress in November and went for a fitting this past weekend and she lost a whole dress size just becasue of stress. Now she has to order a brand new dress becasue it's not worth all the work to do alterations...OMG!!! talk about calling it close. I don't think I'll start shopping until October or November of this year. It gives me plenty of time to drop a few pounds!

June 2012 bride here and I *just* ordered my dress last night! I feel like such a cliche but as soon as I saw myself in the mirror, I knew it was my dress. My consultant put a simple veil on me and I completely FELT like a bride. My mom, sister and a good friend were all sniffling, even the manager of the store was getting misty!

All that said - relax! You have plenty of time! The only reason I went shopping and ordered my dress so insanely early is my sister lives right by the Alfred Angelo Signature store in Roseville, CA. I wasn't going anywhere that didn't have plus size sample dresses and I'd heard very good things about them (all true BTW). I was visiting home this weekend and decided to give dress shopping a whirl. I swear I didn't know I was going to find "the one" but wow, I totally did. And it was on sale. Kismet! I do have to say that I am incredibly relieved I have my dress taken care of though. Now I can't wait for it to come in!

I've been shopping twice. I found a dress that I really liked once, but I was OOT and with a friend so I wanted to wait to be with my mom and not 8 hours from home and the other time was at Davids and all the dresses were too short (like up to my ankles) on me and they could only get a few in extra length and they told me it would change the look of the dress. I plan on going again maybe Friday and making time in the next few weeks as I can. I hopefully plan to have one before May because I don't want to risk anything or get conned into paying a rush fee.

I am a July 2012 bride and I havent even thought of my trying on dresses. I have a few ideas of my dress based on researching on the web. If I bought my dress early, I know that I will end up with a two dresses to decide upon.

I am March 2012 and we ordered my dress a couple of weeks ago. It wont come in until August so that gives me time to get alterations done or to lose weight if its too tight lol

I fell in love with my dress after trying on many dresses that could have been the one. After trying on the dress I ordered, I knew I was done.

ETA: I wasn't a huge fan of dress shopping so I was also pretty ready to be done with it.

I'm getting married at the tail end of 2012 and have my first dress shopping apt in early March. I'm pretty picky and have this feeling that I am going to find a lot of dresses that I like, but not one that I love for quite a while.  So I'm starting now and hoping for the best, but realize this could be a long hunt (that I'm going to love!).

@radiant_bride: I was afraid that I was going to run into that problem buying so early too. Since I've bought my dress I haven't had a desire to look at another magazine to see if there is anything "better" out there. Just some food for thought :)

@HoneyBear: I was so over dress shopping too! It was almost depressing to try on so many dresses and have each of them make me look like a marshmellow/tubo'goo/lopsided (yes, I actually have a consultant tell me I looked lopsided). When I found the one I knew it before I even had it fully on.

I work for a bridal store in my hometown as a sales consultant and let me tell you- nothing excites me more than brides who plan a head! I would much rather have brides come in early then brides who are cutting it close. I recommend brides to purchase their dress a good 10-8 months before their wedding. This will allow PLENTY of time for the dress to arrive in and alterations to be done.

My wedding is not until 5.25.12 and I already have my dress. Of course working at a bridal shop made it hard to resist.

Keep shopping and good luck! :)

@Ms. Meowerson: That may be cutting it a little close. Really research your designers before you wait this long. Some designers/stores can't do it that long without charging a crazy rush fee. And don't forget about alterations. And you may not find your dress in the first store, or even the second or third. Just wanted to let you know.

@gracie727: I would love to work in a bridal shop. But everytime I think about it I realize how tempted I'd be to try on every gown that came in...I should probably wait til after my wedding to seriously consider it :)

@Ms. Meowerson: It can be, I was just warning of some of the "issues" that may come up. I'd hate for you to wait to the last minute then stress out if something happens and it's delayed for whatever reason. You can always order it a size small so it can be altered "technically" a size or two either way as it gets closer. `

I haven't went to try on dresses yet. This post inspired me though! I set up an appointment at David's Bridal for this Thursday. I'm not planning on buying a dress there but I wanted to get an idea of what styles, shades of white, and necklines compliment me. That way I can save time when I go to get my dress at Alfred Angelo's. :) I've always wanted an Alfred Angelo!

I am not getting married until Agust 2012, but I am going dress shopping with my mom next month to find my dress. I know its early, but since she lives on the other side of the country, its not likely that I will get another chance to go with her before my wedding.

I am May 2012 too and am thinking starting this summer works.  Luckily my mom lives nearby and we live in Chicago which is stuffed full of bridal salons.  My friend from Wisconsin has come down here 3 times to try on dresses.  Thank goodness she struck gold this weekend with a gorgeous Maggie Sottero because that 6 hour drive she does is no fun!  P.S.  Her wedding is August 13th!  Cutting it close!

I am getting married June 2012 and have been to several dress shops (3 or 4?) but haven't bought a dress yet. I have found a few that I think are beautiful, but haven't that feeling yet that I know it is "The One", so I am just taking my time. I plan to buy one by the end of the summer, I think that will leave plenty of time for the dress to get in and alterations, etc :)

I'm a 7-7-12 bride. I bought my dress at the beginning of January. I know that it was early, but I hated the whole dress shopping experience (although, I love my dress!) and I got my dress on sale at a trunk show.

@gracie727: My consulutant was tickled PINK that I was in so early... she was SO excited that I could choose anything I wanted and didn't have to rush into a decision.

I am not getting married until late June/early July 2012, and I went shopping for the first time this past week. I got an idea of what shapes worked and didn't, but definitely haven't fallen in love with anything. I'm not going to be able to do much planning or shopping from May -late July, so I would love to figure out the dress sooner rather than later.

I'm getting married in January 2012 and today was the first "shopping trip" I've had (which basically consisted of me going around to department stores at the mall and trying on white/off-white formal dresses... kind of a mistake during prom season) but I'm hoping to have a dress picked by the end of this month or next. I know what I like, so I'm pretty good at shopping.

I bought mine in December and was told it will come in April 15th.  I've looked at other magazines, not specifically looking for wedding dresses, but they always have a lot of dresses in them.  Every dress I see never compares...I just know that I found "the one"!!!

I am getting married June 9, 2012 and I bought my dress March 5th! I actually found it at the first shop I visited.  I was not expecting to find it so quickly but it takes a while to come in.  I'm also in law school so I get to plan in spurts and I only had a couple weeks before exams started and wanted to get a move on.  It also gives you time to make sure the alterations are perfect.

I'm May 2012, and bought my dress in January (when I thought I was Feb 2012). I was going for about a year out, and then we decided to change our date. I didn't impulsively buy my dress, I bought it because I literally do not think I will be able to beat it. Trust me, I tried. I went through all the "it's too soon" scenarios, tried on lots of dresses after, and kept coming back to it. I don't think there is a "right" time to do anything, just what is right for you and your schedule.

I'm getting married August 2012 and haven't stepped a foot in a wedding dress store yet at all.  I am in no rush to try on dresses yet either.  I am kinda dreading it since I know it's not going to be easy.  I am going to try and loose some weight too before then so I am giving it some time.  I have been looking in magazines and a few websites.. But I know what looks on the model doesn't necessarily look good on me so I'm going to try a whole bunch on and see what happens.

I'm getting married July 2012 and have only gone dress shopping once. I'm hoping to make my decision this summer and order the dress. I don't want to be stressing out about anything a couple of months prior to the wedding especially since it's a destination wedding.

Im a September 2012 bride and I already bought my dress.  It wasn't planned though.  I got an email that a shop was having a sale on a designer I was interested in.  I went to try on dresses just to get an idea of what style I like.  Turns out the first dress I tried on was my dress.  It looked like it was made just for me.  So we purchased it.  It's not even made by the designer I originally came to see.  So I ended up purchasing my dress, but it will take at least 4-6 months to make.  I won't get any alterations until it gets closer to my wedding.  To be honest, it's a relief to have something done.  I can be so indecisive that it was pretty much a miracle that I made such a solid, quick decision about something that important.  But I don't regret it.  :)
