I'm in the process for shopping for wedding bands now and I am really looking for something delicate - less than 2mm wide and less than 1.5mm thick that has diamond chips around half or the entire band.

I feel like I'm on the same quest as I was when I was looking for a wedding dress with straps!  I really have never given this sort of thing any thought and I just want something classic and simple.  I went to 4 or 5 jewelry stores yesterday but only found one that fit the bill - I just wanted to see more than one option.

I don't plan on wearing my solitaire engagement ring.  I've considered converting my engagement ring into my wedding band, but I just don't think I can deal with the overall size.

Anyone have any suggestions on where a novice like me should look?

I can totally emphathize with you!  I had a really difficult time finding  a really low profile diamond band.  most bands with stones (even tiny ones) are designed so they stick up, so these bands are taller than they are wide. I suppose it's supposed to be an illusion to make the stones appear more noticeable. I hate it because not everybody wants a tall setting!

a couple of weeks ago, I found this band, which actually looks like it might fit the bill for you: http://tinyurl.com/7768ern

it is 2mm wide. I can't totally tell from the picture, but it looks like it might actually be less than 2mm tall.  it also looks super comfortable, like it has no prongs to stick up and bother you. there is also a full eternity version if you search for it.

besides that, I might recommend this one from moissaniteco.com (it is the wedding band I have):  http://tinyurl.com/7n47qts

It's approx 2mm wide and 2mm tall. lower than any other ring I had seen, but still, I wish it was just a teensy bit lower.

edit: I know you said diamond chips, but I wanted to share this other ring from moissaniteco.com -- I'm currently obsessed with it. it looks beautiful, simple, and comfortable if you plan to wear it by itself:  http://www.moissaniteco.com/shared-prong-channel-round-moissanite-eternity-ring-p-10024.html

but it is just a tad bit bigger than what you are looking for: 3mm in width and 2.2mm in height

like I said, it's so very hard to find super delicate rings that also sit low.

@janie-janie:  I am CLUELESS about jewelry!  I have no idea what anything is called.  Thanks for all the links - they are great options!  My FI is worried about ordering online, so I'll need to get him to warm up to it.

@lmoss78:  I was worried at first too, and then I got used to it. here is what I did:

don't have rings delivered to your home. see if you can get it dropped off at a Fedex or UPS store for you to pick up in person.

be sure that you are clear on any store's return policies before you order (for example: moissaniteco has a restocking fee on lots of stuff, but not everything-- sometimes you need to just ask them before you order).

when returing, consider adding the insurance policy at Fedex (or UPS) before putting any rings back in the mail. the extra cost was worth it to me for the peace of mind.
