I am so sorry to hear about your 1st husband’s passing.

This is my second marriage also.  I didn’t have a dress the first time.  So this time I got a real Casablanca wedding dress – in white nonetheless.  I love it.

Here’s a lady in a lilac colored wedding dress.  Is this too dressy?

Alternatives to the Garter Toss/Bouquet Toss?

Once upon a time people just wore their best dress, whatever color it was!

What’s your favorite color?  Would you consider wearing a lighter version of that color, whether it’s pink or light blue?  I’d also check out the destination style gowns, they tend to be less formal because they’re meant for a casual ceremony and to travel well (big poufy ballgowns don’t squeeze into a suitcase easily).  Finally, maybe look at long bridesmaid gowns to see if there is something there that you like (with the added bonus that you’ll save some cash if you don’t buy a bridal gown).

Maybe some kind of maxi dress?  You could get a solid colored one in light gray, blush, lilac, etc., or a print with white/ivory and whatever your other colors are.

This is my second marriage as well and I am looking at informal bridal gowns, but I had also considered bridesmaids gowns.  Maybe look at Dillards or Macys and see what they have in their formal section?

Are you looking for structured? Are you comfortable with sleeveless? I’m plus size too and intend to do a BBQ type wedding too 🙂

I think you should feel free to wear whatever color you want! White/ivory/cream included!

That said, if you prefer to stay away from those, blush is an incredibly popular choice for wedding dresses right now so it should be fairly easy to find one in that color. Champagne is another excellent choice–sophisticated and elegant without looking like a prom dress.

I just did a super quick google search for “blush gown” under the “shopping” tab and immediately got a ton of GORGEOUS and affordable non-uber-formal dresses (ie. they won’t look out of place in a more relaxed style, outdoor wedding)

A few examples:

even a bridal gown in chiffon could suffice – im not sure of your budget but they play off as a dressier maxi and would be a whimsical touch for your type of theme!

even if you arent close to mn – i always use the wedding shoppe’s website to do some searching. i love their website because you can search by designer, price, length, fabric or what have you. and ive found it very hard to find any dress/bridal site that lets you really narrow down a selection! then if you found anything you could google it to order it from wherever you find suitable!

like the lilac dress the pp mentioned – check out two birds! http://www.twobirdsbridesmaid.com/
