I'm NOT pregnant. But, yeah, I'm going to be that girl who is worried she looks like a stuffed sausage or 4 months pregnant in my dress. People are always saying I look pregnant b/c of how I carry weight in my mid-section soo I'd really like to not have to hear it about my wedding dress. People are rude I know! Wedding is March 10. This is my first fitting and was taken on January 10. I haven't been feeling good about this ever since. I up'ed my hot and power yoga routine from once a week to 4x a week, have been *trying* to eat as healthy as possible without starving myself and becoming a calorie freak which I can kind of become if I'm not careful. I have also been doing pure barre 1-2x a week, with some medicine ball stuff too since January 10. I ran my first 1/2 marathon in Novemeber and hurt my foot so running is out atm. Final fitting isn't until March 3.
Do you think my increased hot/power yoga and pure barre I've been doing since Jan 10 and up until the wedding (31 more days) will be enough to look better in my dress? Do I look pregnant in it as it is?
*Note: I'm already wearing shapewear as well, so this is what my dress looks like with those girdle undie things.
Help!

*excuse the wrinkled dress. It's Maggie Sottero Cleo!
You do not look pregnant! You look like a woman. I can't believe someone would even say that to you.
It sounds like your exercise routine is great- lots of strength training & toning! Can you add in a few cardio sessions each week? Maybe a spin class or hit the elliptical?
How is your diet? I think you're wise to recognize that you have a tendancy to be a little too uptight about calorie counting. Maybe just make some small changes- they can add up and make a big difference. For example, change from white bread to wheat bread, white rice to brown rice, and focus on increasing fresh fruits & veggies. Increase your lean protein intake and decrease your soft drink/dessert coffee/potato chip intake.
The bad news is that 30 days is enough to make progress, but I don't think it's enough to safely & sustainably make a huge difference. The good news: I think you look amazing in your dress! I have more of a pouch than that when I have PMS! You are so stunning, and the ruching and the flower allow the dress to be a little more forgiving. Don't stress... you look great in your dress :)
Here's what I'd do: take kickboxing classes. Then, if anyone says you look preggo in your wedding dress, you could knock them out.
I would try to do some low impact cardio like spinning or the eliptical. And whenever I cut out carbs and lower my sodium intake, the first thing to go is my gut, so with 30 days to go, I would probably do that.
@ohmybears48: Great idea!
I think you look beautiful in your dress. If you want something to do I would try a spin class or eliptical or something low impact like that.
I think you look great! If you're worried about it, you can increase the number of times you work out per week. Better yet, focus on your diet, which is 80% of the battle anyway. Try cutting back on sugars and carbs as much as possible, and reduce your salt intake a bit. It's quite easy to lose water weight (though not really advisable). People seem to lose the most true weight when they get their bodies off a sugar diet and start burning fat instead.
Or...you can take @ohmybears48's advice. Seriously some of the best fitness advice I've ever heard, lol!
you should try Jillian Michaels 30 Day shred and possibly continue it up to the wedding... cut down on salty foods and drink lots of water! good luck girl!
I'd try to go low carb and low salt for a week and see if it cuts down on weight carried in your middle. It's not a long term solution, but it will knock off some water weight fast! Then you have a backup plan for the week before the wedding if you are not feeling confident.
i think you look great, but we brides are always our worst critics!
I was also told by my trainer that if you want to lose 10lbs fast... to get going on the cardio... after you lose those 10 lbs... to start doing cardio and strength training equally to tone up.
You need to mix it up more. That just hot yoga. I'm no pro but you need to burn the calories off, then tone that tummy. So you need cardio in addtion to eating healthy, and "barree" and hot yoga... combine it all and you should be in good shape.
You do look great!! Not "pregnant" as you said lol. But it sucks you cant run, because cardio is going to be your best friend to loose belly fat, overall body fat too! I'd keep the yoga for your awesome arms and legs but you need to do some type of total body cardio to get rid of fat. Maybe cycling orrrr I dont know, can you jog?? I don't know how severe your foot injury is. You look great though, keep up the healthy eating, I think that's the hardest part!
I would start doing some interval training. A lot of trainers say that is the way to burn a lot of calories in less time that running on a treadmill for a hour. I would get a Jillian Michaels' DVD, my favor is No More Trouble Zones and mix it up with some extra cardio type classes. Also, keep an eye on your diet as others have said.
You look beautiful already though!
Thanks guys for all the tips!! And I'm loving the kickboxing idea. I can just imagine dropkicking someone at my wedding!
To answer a few q's:
I have recently switched to lower carbs. As in not cold turkey, but reducing the amount I eat. The yoga I do in addition to Hot Yoga is Power Vinyassa- constantly moving vigorous yoga. Trust me, it's a calorie burn for sure if you've never tried it! My foot injury is bad. As in the impact with every step makes me want to cry out in pain. I have another 1/2 marathon this month I'm having to sit out because the pain is so bad. I'm trying to let it heal and stick to only low impact stuff so it doesn't become a reocurring injury. Although-it kind of already is. Wearing heels to court every week isn't helping either. At this point in the game paying for wedding and bar exam fees and prep class won't allow me to pay for any additional trainer/gym/class membership right now. I have a 20 yoga class groupon I was able to score for $65 so that's the only "class" I'd be able to do. I was considering Jilian's 30 Day Shred b/c I can get the DVD off Amazon for under $10. Does that contain cardio?
Thanks guys for all the reassurance- you have no idea how much it means to me!!
I carry my weight there too. I have recently started an 800 calorie per day diet and have definitely noticed a difference. One of the docs I work with preaches all day every day, "You can exercise all you want, but to change your body you gotta change your diet." Which I may get a lot of crap for posting that, but I really agree. I exercised A TON like a mad person hoping I could see some changes and yeah, I definitely saw some changes in my endurance and strength, but I did NOT see any changes in my body until I started this diet... Unfortunately...because I love food...
I think hot yoga is great! It really helps you lose water weight and that can help tremendously!
I went down a pant size in my first two weeks of doing hot yoga and my FI was like WHOA! How did you get so skinny?!
yoga is also relaxing and it takes minimal effort which is always a plus in my book!

@andersonsarah: I agree with cutting calories, but in my opinion, 800 calories is way too low. The World Health Organization recommends no fewer than 1200 calories per day for an adult woman. Obviously consult with your own doctor before doing a very restrictive diet like that, and be sure you're getting proper nutrients in the calories you are consuming.
@abbie017: Completely agree. Going that low will wreak havoc on your metabolism, and that can take months to get back to normal if you eat like that for too long. At minimum, you should eat 1,200 calories, though diet is the most important part to losing fat.
@amanda06: Totally agree. 800 calroies!?! Don't you ever feel faint or just have a total lack of energy all day long?
I'll bet you see results only eating 800 calories a day... but you will see results with anorexia too. Problem is, when semi-normal eating habits resume, her metabolism will be so effed up that she'll gain weight like crazy & not be able to get it off again. I agree, changing your body requires both diet & exercise. I think what's more important is engaging in a diet and exercise plan that is SAFE and SUSTAINABLE!!
@abbie017: It's a physician's plan for weight loss, like, the company is called "Physician's Plan" and my doc is an MD, and I'm monitored closely for muscle loss and ketosis =) I agree, 800 calories is not very much at all... I'm going to do thet 1200 calorie plan after the wedding, I just don't have much time! LOL
I have heard that going under 1200 calories will put your body into starvation mode and slow your metabolism down, but I am no doctor. Also, I think when you go below 1200 calories you could be losing muscle/water weight as opposed to fat. But if the plan you are on is being monitored by a doctor then he or she would know better than me.
I am on my fitness pal right now and eating 1200 calories a day and it's super hard. At this rate I can only expect to lose about 80% of a pound a week and I'd like faster results, but going down to 1200 is hard enough. Also, I don't like how MFP treats all calories and sugar grams as equal-a bowl of strawberries is not the same as eating a candy bar!
@andersonsarah: I wasn't trying to be mean, but I work in endocrinology so I can definitely tell you that I have no recollection of ever reccommending anything so extreme to anyone for any reason. You do know that you're only 300 calories away from being considered clinically anorexic? Sorry if you're taking my honesty as rude, but it's something I'm pretty passionate about (hence the endocrine focus...) so I guess take it or leave it, but it's my opinion.
@Tatum: " I have heard that going under 1200 calories will put your body into starvation mode and slow your metabolism down, but I am no doctor. Also, I think when you go below 1200 calories you could be losing muscle/water weight as opposed to fat."
You're right- it will.
@DaneLady: And you know calling someone fat and accusing someone of anorexia is just as offensive? I can understand your concern as I work in healthcare also. Clearly, it's a short-term diet for people with a limited amount of time to drop the weight, which this OP has 30 days to do so, and I have like 50 days. My weight loss doctor has plans to combat the negative effects on metabolism that I will begin as soon as I survive the wedding. Then, I'll go on Weight Watchers which I think everyone can agree is a healthy diet. So don't leap to judgements about people and immediately attack them with negative comments about how I'm effing up my metabolism and will gain the weight back.
Personally, I feel fine on this diet. I am eating every 2 hours and am constantly feeling full and have plenty of energy; and am eating more nutrient dense food than I ever have in my life. You have every right to be honest, but you don't have to be rude about it, and you can give the person a chance before passing judgement.
@andersonsarah: Since you are under the care of a doctor, the plan has been okayed for you. I think it's risky business advocating a similar plan to people on the internet who may take it as a good idea for them as well. Clearly your doctor knows more than me, and knows more about your medical history and needs, so that's fine. I just caution against advocating such an extreme diet to anyone without also recommending medical clearance for it. I think that's all people are really getting at in their responses to you...concern for the OP, and for other girls who may follow your advice, and also for you because, let's be honest, 800 calories is not sustainable for most people.
My doctor advised me that dipping below 900 calories a day can actually cause neurological damage. There's no need for people to be defensive, it can be cause for concern when people try crash diets. Some people might have great results, others mights actually crash.
@abbie017: I can agree with that. When I talk about my diet from now on, I will advise that this has been okayed by an MD who is following me closely and may not be right for everyone. I apologize if anyone took it as I was recommending all people to try it or offended anyone by saying that I'm doing that.
I just started the shred dvd a few days ago, and it is hard! its cardio, strength, and abs. there are three levels so it can be as hard as you need it. even if your foot hurts, you could do abs whcih (according to jillian) will help with the belly issues (people suggest i look preggo too, so i know how you feel)!
btw, beautiful dress!
@kerensa: I love the Shred! I really recommend it - it's pretty kick butt!!! OP - I second this!!
I'll just say my dad is a Doctor (MD), and so I wouldn't do nor advise anyone to follow a diet plan willy nilly without consulting their own doctor beforehand! I was looking for more exercise type of advice anyways as I'm eating lots of lean protein (grilled chicken breast), spinach salad with little to no dressing, nuts for snack. I may cut fruits and I just started with the lowering carb intake to see how that works too!
@ohmybears48: <--- I'm with her!
I've never tried hot yoga but you will want a mix of strength training, cardio and lower cal diet. I've been following the New Rules of Lifting for Women and am noticing a difference. You can see my results here. I started it after seeing Mrs. Mole talking about it on the weddingbee blog!
@lawgirl12: thank you! I can't recommend that book enough! It's the first time I have seen real results!
Thanks for the tip! I put in a request at the library for that book. I have been wanting to get into more lifting but pretty ignorant on form and technique and am too embarrassed to just wing it at the gym.
@Tatum: I felt the exact same way! This book helps explain some of that so I don't feel like such a dum dum
Alright, so I decided to start Jillian's 30 Day Shred. Can I just say OMG!! It was tough, but I love it because it's working different muscles. Of course I was using 10lb weights like a bad ass, but I may want to dust off those ole 5 maybe even 3lbers since you do so many reps. Will take some before pictures since it's only day two so I can compare on wedding day!
