Honestly, I loved it. I can't quite put my finger on why, but I was just ready to feel like more of an adult. I was a little angsty about it in the months before, but when the time came, it was awesome. I had three celebrations (one casual at a bar with friends, one nice dinner with my now-husband and my parents, and on the day of, a sweet romantic dinner with just him) and I enjoyed the hell out of them, and I didn't feel at all bad about it afterward.
@PrncssDva - I'm not 30 yet, but I would agree with the sentiment - really that 30 is BETTER than 20. Think about it, at 20, you can't drink at a bar, most of us are flat broke and still kind of reckless - at 30, I'll have been married for nearly 3 years, own a house, feeling settled into a comfortable lifestyle, able to travel...
@MightyWombat - I turned 28 today, and plan on celebrating my "birthmonth" rather than birthday! There's nothing wrong with extended celebration!
@mightywombat: Sounds like you had an awesome time!! I love extended celebrations! I am down to two months, so I hope it's the best birthday ever. I have planned my own events for the past few years. I just hope Hubby steps up and does something special :)
Oh HI!! I didn't realize that it was you! :)
@7SEVENJ9: You mean 3 years, right? ;) That's a great way to look at it.
Who wants to be 20? I sincerely hope 30 is not the new 20 because 20 was just ok. I was broke, I couldn't drink (legally) and all the guys were *ssholes.
This saying has been around for quite sometime and I'm sorry I disagree. I'm 31 and I love my 30s. Did I maybe feel a little down last year turning 30? Yea, who doesn't! You always think of things you wanted to accomplish by certain milestones and it's funny how life can be so totally different. I would never want to be 20 or even live my 20's again. They were a period of growing, discovering yourself, struggles and bad decisions that I don't regret but choose not to relive. I'm settled, grounded, mature and self confident in my 30's. I have cousins that are 24 years and under and I wouldn't trade them places for anything.
I was more thinking of the 20's as in I'm NOT old lol. I know that I am way more mature than I was. I should hope that goes fo reveryone.
I'm turning 30 in August. I wasn't feeling particularly thrilled about this until my sister-in-law started telling me about how she likes her thirties so much better than her twenties. And then I realized that I like having a full-time job and money to spend and that I wouldn't necessarily want to go back to 20 when I had no money, worked for my Dad, and drank all the time. I'd sure as hell like to LOOK like I did when I was 20 but I'm never getting that back, haha.
@Prncssdva: Understandable but this is how most feel with that saying. I never felt 30 was old, your only as old as your attitude about life. I think what most meant when that saying came about years ago was when your in your 20's you feel this is the time of your life when now due to maturity and being grounded, your 30's are really when you can live, enjoy life and appreciate it.
I turned 30 in April. I like being 30, heck I don't "feel" 30. I had a great time in my 20s, well after 25 when I had money to travel and such,LOL. You won't feel old when you turn 30. It's just another year add, but your body won't be all cracky and run over.LOL
@assilem: I'd like to look how I did at 20 too. I was so much smaller, but my dumb self thought I was fat!LOL!

I saw this as the FB profile pic for my friend that just turned 30. It made me feel a little bit better (I'll be 30 in Sept). I have been kind of up and down about it for a while. I really don't know how to feel about it. I know it's a blessing to make it to another year, but I don't want to feel old. LOL What do you think about turning 30?
