I’m trying to come up with some ideas of what I would like to do for my 30th birthday. My SO and I are major foodies, but not all of our friends are. I’d like to do at least one thing foodie related, but that won’t overwhelm my friends.
I’m looking at interesting restaurants to go to, but I also want to do something before dinner.
Does anyone have any ideas about what I could do that day? Any memorable group events or birthday events that you have been to?

Not sure completely sure where you are located. My 30th birthday was 2 different celebrations. The first part was low key because of my friends wedding being the weekend before where we just went to lunch at my favorite sushi restaurant in Charlotte aka Cowfish. But I also took a trip to New Orleans for the 2nd part as a celebration with a different group of friends. I would have love to have done a cooking class but we had a great time on a steamboat cruise with standard New Orleans fair on the steamboat.
But I think if we didn’t have my friends wedding I would have love to have done a winery tour and then maybe a picnic lunch.

Indoor rock climbing is good for a mixed group. Or maybe some sort of touristy-type thing in your city for the giggles of it. Or got to a stand up comedy show, sports event (pro indoor soccer or ice hockey would get my vote for good action and a fun environment), group cooking class, paint your own pottery session, play billiards, or go to an arcade.
We would probably host a game day. A bit of Cards Against Humanity, mixed with some Magic for my favorite geeks <3, a good bit of wine and beer, some snacks, and a very good time.

@vttp926: Thanks for your response! Your celebration sounded like fun – especially the cruise! I’ve thought about a cooking class, so that might be a contender.
I’m going to be having my party in Ontario, Canada. I haven’t decided on a city yet, since my friends are fairly spread out and I will be flying in for that weekend.
@lovekiss: I hadn’t thought about going the touristy route. Sometimes you can live in a great city and never really see the sights, because you could go anytime! I like the idea of the pottery class. That could be really fun!
Thanks for your suggestions!

Do you have any type of food tours in your areas?
When I was looking for honeymoon ideas, in Chicago there were alot of food tours.. a tour given by a guide that takes you place to place in a bus, you try out differant foods and a bunch of different locations. Some of them even hair wine & beer pairings with the food.
It sounded really awesome and we considered a pizza tour [fi’s fav food is pizza!], but we decided that we will just visit each place on our own.

@jenilynevette: a foodie tour would be pretty awesome! I will have to look into that!!

@mildlybookish: For my 30th I hired a “party bus” and we went wine tasting in Temecula. We ended the night at a restaurant to sober up.
I like the idea of a party bus with a food tour. Or if food trucks are a thing in your area, that could be a fun way for everyone to get different things. We have a ton of gourmet food trucks near us that do big meet-ups all together.

Thanks everybody for your suggestions! The foodie tours and wine tastings sound awesome. I just need to do some more research and find out what is available and feasible in my area.
