Hi everyone! I'm considering changing into a different dress for the reception portion, mainly because my wedding dress is pretty bulky and somewhat uncomfortable (Tight!). Not surprising to say, I won't be able to dance much in it either. I was wondering what type of dress I could wear, and what color it should be. Should I stick to another white dress to ensure not wearing the same color/style as someone else? I want to do a short dress though, mainly because I am short to begin with. But, I don't want to look just like any other guest though, and yes, I am on a budget as well. I wouldn't want to spend too much on this dress. What do you think? Should I just suck it in (Hahaha..pun intended) and stick with my wedding dress for the entire night? What are you ladies intending to wear for the reception? What color will it be? When will you change into your reception dress? =) Any short dress recommendations?? =P
I changed briefly into a Vietnamese ao dai for the cocktail hour, but changed back for the rest of the reception. I think if you're not going to be comfortable in your wedding gown, then definitely get a different one for the reception. Get it in white, maybe get a cute birdcage veil so it's obvious you're the bride even if the dress is short and more casual! Maybe something like this?
Wear whatever you love! Everyone will know who you are anyway. :)
I will wear my cathedral length wedding gown through the introduction, cake cutting, and first dance..After that, I will change into a traditional Chinese kwa and/or cheong sam/qipao. Following that, for the dancing and partying, I will be in a chapel length wedding gown.
Girl you can do/wear whatever you want... After buying three gown(I couldnt make up my mind) I have decided on one dress to wear to both... For the wedding I will wear all ivory, pearls, diamonds, ect. and for the reception i will wear pink shoes, a big pink flower in my hair and pink diamond jewerly with a colorful fun bouquet... but you can anthing you want... A red dress, purple, green, orange whatever! Its your day! And I would recommend you changing my bbf didn't and it was a very long painful night for her. Good luck!
I have gone with two gowns. Could not decide between the two.
I will wear one for the pictures and the ceremony and then I will wear the other for the reception. I realize that lots of tounges will wag but...honestly it's my day and my dollar. Laughs!
I am wearing two dresses. The first is Priscilla of Boston and gorgeous! It is also a little much to dance and party in. So, I am switching to a BCBG short dress in the color Chalk that I found at Nordstrom. It's not something I would typically wear (it's short and low-cut) and that's why I love it. Wearing two different dresses is fun and good way to keep everyone on their toes. Besides, it's you wedding! Do what you want!
Lik tanya2s, I'm also going to wear an ao dai... but probably after dinner for the father/daughgter dance and cake cutting. Then I'm going to change into a white cocktail dress w/ birdcage veil, too! I'm not planning on spending much on any of the dresses (ao dais can be custom made for around $100 and I think I'll get the cocktail dress from Ross or H&M or something).
I love the idea of a short reception dress. I'm doing a small wedding, but if I had the big blow out, I think I would have done a 2nd dress. BCBG makes great dresses that are bride appropriate, short and long. In fact for my beachy wedding, my first option was a long BCBG chiffon dress (but ended up with a Nicole Miller silk dress that I LOVE). I tried this BCBG on, very cute and fun: Short white BCBG dress with applique flowers That also comes in yellow, super cute! Nicole Miller is a good bet too. Check this one out. (first time posting, hope those links work)
I am wearing the wedding dress all night! FI will have to pry me out of it, and I will possibly put it back on the next day. Of course I knew that I didn't want the hassle of changing, or even selecting another dress, and so it was a priority for me to pick a dress that felt really wearable. Seriously, some of the dresses I tried on (mostly the ones that stood up by themselves) I really couldn't see wearing at all! After having to help my sister pee in her wedding dress (couldn't get into and out of the stall, so we had to run up to the hotel room, and then I had to hold the skirt practically over her head) I knew I wasn't going to have anything like that!
Suzanno! LOL -- I can picture trying to get some of these dresses into a stall-- definately something that should be added to the venue checklist! (and I guess the wedding dress checklist!)
I personally like to see brides in thier dresses all night. but if you are having an all day affair I can see the need for a change!
Anyone changing into "honeymoon apparel" for the grand exit?
I am having a 1 pm wedding and 7 pm dance. I am having a dress that resembles my long dress in white with purple accessories, this way we still look like bride and groom in our pictures. I did think about a dress in my colors but then I would look like a bridesmaid.
I think we might do a swing dance for our first dance, and so I might change into a vintage 1940's dress for that, and then back into old whitey after if I feel up to it... then again I have a feeling I'll feel really comfy in the second dress, though.
I was in Macy's over the weekend and they had a nice selection of BCBG dresses on sale for 50-70% off, including many dressy enough to be a reception dress.

posted by canthardlywait 7 months agoI've always loved this style for a fun summer wedding. It is less formal, easy to wear, and looks great! And, it is still a wedding dress.
