- Wedding: April 2014
So, I’m quite new to WeddingBee and I JUST got onto the Waiting List that was posted earlier today! But, I already need to be taken off because my SO proposed and we’re now engaged!
I came here a few days ago because my new fiancé asked me a Serious Question. He wanted to know how I would react if he got down on one knee and proposed in front of a lot of people. I said that I’d rather the proposal not take place in public. Then came the debate about changing my name… which, by the way, I won 😉 I’m going to be Ms. Finn forever! (Not that Kitty Finn is my real name, or even close to it.) So this last weekend rolled around, and FI graduated from the police academy. I knew the proposal was coming, but FI wanted to propose with my family there, and well… my parents were out of the country Friday. So the next day, we’re getting ready for his graduation party (and I had to run out and get a green shirt for St. Patrick’s Day so people didn’t pinch the crap out of me!). He tells me to go hang out at a Target for a bit by myself while he did Something Very Important. I knew what he was up to, since there’s a jewelry store next to that Target. But when he came to get me about an hour later, he said he hadn’t bought anything and was only looking. Uh huh. I totally saw through that one.
So later then the party starts, and I see him duck off with a few people every now and again. And like before I knew exactly what he was up to. I saw him talk to my sister, his brother, and his mom (I actually kind of walked in on the conversation with his mom). I was nervous the entire time, because I thought he was going to propose then because his family was all there… no dice. My parents were supposed to be there, but they’d JUST gotten back into the country, and were in Florida (FI and I were in North Carolina). So, after a drink around the bonfire we went to bed.
The next morning we got up and went somewhere to be insufferable nerds and eat Mexican food on a day set aside to commemorate an Irish saint. We had to cut this session a bit short because my parents were FINALLY getting home and wanted me to come over for dinner. My sister was going to be there too, and her boyfriend (FI’s best friend… yeah, it’s kind of weird like that), and a family friend, let’s call him B. Anyway, somehow we all migrated downstairs, like my parents were about to go on the porch for a smoke break. But I wasn’t wearing a coat, and was about to turn around and go get it, when B decides to ask for a picture. I thought it was odd, but I’m used to B taking pictures of anything and everything so I smile for the camera… and then realize FI isn’t there. He calls my name, I turn around, and find him down on one knee holding the ring up and asking me to marry him. I was speechless, so all I could do was nod while my parents, sister, and B all took pictures (and video, which will be posted soon).
It’s been a very eventful weekend, to say the least… I’m coming back down here Thursday to get the ring resized (I will miss it so much, because it’s so pretty!) We haven’t decided on date yet, but we have to keep in mind relatives having to travel a long distance, especially very elderly grandmothers. We’re thinking of having the wedding at either the Blue Ridge mountains, which will be doable for my relatives in Ohio, or the Outer Banks, which we live quite close to. Oh, there’s so much to do now. We both want a fairly short engagement.
