ask for a better deal your friend will want to get some money than no money. Are these like VIP tickets limo ride, dinner, chmapagne included, I hope so, if not, that's too much.
This is why I never go to concerts - the cost of tickets is way out of control.
I wouldn't pay that much to see the Beatles in concert, back from the dead. LOL. I'm not a big music person though.
Sade seems like a strange choice for tickets to be that high. Her music is beautiful, but she isn't that popular, is she?
@Lindsay12.31.2010: I think its because she appeals to an older crowd with extra play money.
I wouldn't pay that much for two tickets
@LGenz: That would definitely make sense! I hadn't thought of it like that.
Nope - just the tickets.
I'll also add that every time I go to a concert, I think: hmmm - I could have bought the CD and saved a ton of money.
It's the appeal of seeing her IN concert that's driving me... but - gulp - it's soooo much money.
that's way too much, and this is coming from someone who's been to well over 100 concerts. if she really needs to get rid of the tickets, she should come down on the price. i'd tell her if no one else bites, that you'd take the tickets for $150.
Are they amazing seats or something? Ticketmaster has tickets for that concert for $49 - $179.
I'd pay for cheap seats!
haha I would totally do it. Especially since there's special meaning for you and your husband! But, I'm kinda crazy like that...
For me, there is no artist I can think of that I would be willing to spend $350 to see in concert.
But I can't tell you if that's too much or not. If you are financially well off and wouldn't miss the $350 and would have no problem otherwise spending that amount of money for an evening out, then it's not too much. If a Sade concert is on your buecket list and this may be your only opportunity to see her, then $350 may not be too much even if it's a stretch financially. The answer really depends on how much you want to see Sade and your finances.
I wouldn't be able to do it. But that's just me. If you have the means to afford it and can still pay your bills, and seeing her is something you'd really enjoy- do it. Plus your hubs supports it, that's a bonus.
I paid close to the for an amazing pair of seats to see Garth Brooks in Vegas so if it is a concert you really want to see and you can afford it, than go for it! I had always wanted to see Garth Brooks live but he'd stopped touring. So when I heard he was going to start performing in Vegas, I was all over those tickets.
IF I had the funds do it, I would totally spend it on a concert I've been wanting to see. If I couldn't afford it then I'd get the cheapest seats available or sit at home eating icecream and watching RHOBH.
I voted its not crazy because I've paid more than that for U2 numerous times and I have paid up to 500 bucks for big massive rave party tickets.
But I am not sure that Sade would get me to shell out that much. I love her but as PP stated, I just didn't think her tickets would be that much!
In this case, i think its too much, unless you are right up front in the best seats. I think the most I paid was $100 to see Nickelback a couple years ago, but we had the money so it was fine.
I've spent $400 on a pair of tickets before, it was a little much but I was like an inch away from touching Steven Tyler at one point!
Like Lindsay12.31.2010 said, are they super close? If they are the $179 tickets then you're actually getting a bit of a deal (2 x $179 + 18.30 service charge each = $394.60), if not then she's charging you more than she should be....
*Giggles at Nickelback*
I used to work at a now defunct nightclub named the Town Pump in Vancouver and they used to play all the time there before they were famous. I also have seen No Doubt, Nirvana and Soundgarden there. Its pretty cool seeing them when they were just 'little' bands.
That seems sketchy to me! Is that really the face value of the tickets? I mean, I love Sade, but I've never heard of tickets costing that much except for something like the Rolling Stones.
I'm not sure what the face value of the tickets is... good point. They are not floor tickets, but on the first level of seats, 11 rows from the floor and the section closest to the stage - and on the aisle! That makes me think they are the $179 value...
@Oneeleven: I almost saw Nirvana during their last tour... I distinctively remember thinking - nah, I can't afford it - I'll see them during their next tour... :(
Also - to give you a comparison for what ticket brokers are selling them for - this is actually pretty cheap (floor tickets are going for $350-700) EACH.
The shows are sold out, and the venue is relatively small - which is why the prices are going crazy.
i guess if you're REALLY into going to concerts and you REALLY love the artist, then go for it.
i personally love music but hate concerts and would never pay to go to one. i know that sounds crazy but i just prefer listening to tunes in my car or at home when i'm alone and cleaning or something.
i never got into concerts. it's always hot as hell down here so you get all sticky and sweaty and there's lines for drinks, etc.. i guess i'm just a diva lol
don't get wrong though if i found a great deal for an aritst i love and the venue was nice, i'd probably go. but generally speaking, i'd say i don't like concerts and $350 for tickets to one is nuts lol
also, i've never gone front row seats or within the first few rows so maybe if i did, i'd have a different perspective on concerts.
being that its a small venue, you just convinced me more. nothing will beat that if you really love her.
If it was a band I loved (ween, wilco, guster, my morning jacket) then yes I would pay that much. My best friend just spend $150 on tix to see Britney. I think going to shows is a lot different than just sitting at home listening to the CD. Music live is the way music is supposed to be listened to! If you and your husband are both ok with it, then do it! You will probably have a blast!
to me listening live is more about the show/artist than the actual music. i'm bigger on sound quality than a show. that's why i prefer blasting it in my car or home theater.
The only way I could see myself paying that is if the Beatles were all alive or there was a time machine to put me at one of their shows. Otherwise, too much money for me.
Sade & John Legend, they are supposed to be here soon too! If the tickets are $350 they must be amazing tickets. I say go for it, why not? Have a good time :)
I went, it was the one of the best nights of my life. I actually have a thread for it here:
http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/nwr-sade-soldier-of-love-1
I would spend the money, because it was just that good!
And btw, I noted this in my thread - my FI and my BFF (male), didn't know much about her. They both said "hands down" - best concert in their life!
For Sade, hell yes I would. Perhaps I'm biased because i've gotten on a plane, crossed international lines, paided for hotel and spluged for VIP tixs for a select artists.
I mean if you can afford to do it, why not, but budget is an issue, then no.
I would..if it was my fave band/artist, I would pay it if I had the money. You're paying for the experience, the memories, and the enjoyment of it and that's priceless if you love the artist. I can only name a few artist that I would do it for but I would def do it. :)
@bklynbridetobe: love your avatar
I'm not a big concert goer at all, but last spring Elton John came to my (fairly small) city and I spent a little over $300 to go. It was amazing. Let's just say that I may have cried. Twice. :) For me, that concert was worth every single penny. If you have the money to spend and would at all regret passing on the opportunity, then do it!
i voted yes, buy the tickets - i hate living with what ifs and if onlys after the event so do it!
@Ms. Sparkles: Thanks and I agree with your comments. Expereinces are priceless, it may not be practical to go, but in the long run, I always remember the memories and good times, rather than the financial strain.
I'm STILL flip-flopping and driving myself crazy.
As for 'can' we afford it - technically, yes. It's not like we are rolling in dough, but this would be our big 'splurge'.
Here are my pro's/con's"
Pros: have always wanted to see her, heard she's amazing in concert, would be a fun 'almost our anniversary' type celebration, and we just paid off all of DH's credit cards (yesterday!), so it could also serve as a celebration of that, they are super close tickets to the stage.
Cons: crap load of money for a concert, on a Friday night (DH works the next day at 5am), seats MAY suck (they are close to the stage, but off to one side - so we might not be able to see the screen that's behind her and would only be seeing her from the side).
Don't they have a map of the layout of the venue you could scope out?
There is no way in hell I would shell out that much cash for a seat location I couldn't confirm.
oh snap i just realized my boss' best friend who is a music manager in NYC managed her. i knew i recognized that name, just googled her and was like, "oh yeaaa" lol
It might make you feel better to know that I paid almost, ALMOST $400 for Kenny Chesney tickets in the Sandbar. That means we were standing next to the stage and could almost touch him, and Keith Urban (my other fave!) so they were worth it to me. If you really want to to see her, then do it! But make sure you REAAAALLLY want it!

Let me start by saying that paying $350 for a pair of concert tickets sounds CRAZY TO ME!!!
But, a friend just posted on FB that she has 2 tickets to a concert tomorrow night - she can't go because her cat is very ill and she needs to stay home with him....
I really want to go... yet on the other hand, am feeling like it's soooo much money.
The concert is for Sade - loved her for years - heck, DH and I danced to one of our songs as our first dance.
DH says to go for it - but, I'm feeling 'ack!' about it. I don't think I've paid more than $60-ish bucks for a concert before.
