I need some advice as I am totally over thinking this!
I have a very thin (1.5mm) pave white gold engagement ring. About a month ago, my fiancé and I went to get our wedding bands. We wanted plain white gold bands, and I asked for the slimmest they had – which is a 2.5mm.
We bought the wedding rings and took them home, but after the last month or so I’ve been having doubts about the ering and w-ring together. Something was a bit… Off. I’ve finally figured it out – the wedding band is too wide next to the ering.
I went back to the jewellers, but unfortunately i am outside the exchange/refund period. I asked if it was possible to “shave down” the ring to a 2mm – but they said no as it was too thin a width for a soft metal like 18k white gold ( despite my ering being less than this?)
Anyway, I am thinking of taking it to another jeweller to see if it is possible.
Has anyone done this before? How did it turn out? Or am I being a total nutcase over .5mm and should just get over myself?!
Thanks bees xx

I don’t know how helpful I will be but I bought a plain white gold band also and love it! A few of the places only had the 2.5 mm band and I agreed that it was a little thick for my engagement ring. But most of the places we looked had 2 mm or could at the very least order it.
Mine is 14k gold just because that is what my engagement ring is. They told us we could have ordered in 10, 14 , or 18k. No one ever mentioned to me that the 18k would be too soft for 2 mm. Obviously 10 or 14 will be a stronger but I don’t think it will collapse.
I would get another opinion from a different jeweler. I am no gold expert but we REALLY love our jeweler and I think if it would have been an integrity issue they would have at least mentioned to us that the gold may be too soft for the width. It’s not that skinny that I think it would be an issue. The 2mm is still a little wider than my engagement ring.

Do you have a picture of the two together?

Your ring is so pretty! I don’t think it looks bad at all, but if it was me I would probably feel the same way as you (wanting a thinner band). I know this isn’t ideal but could you maybe try to bargain with them and see if they’ll order a 2mm one for you, or at least give you a store credit and you could order it somewhere else? I feel like this is something you’re going to wear every day, forever, so you might as well LOVE it 100% and not always have that “something is slightly off” feeling. Good luck!!
