I always prefer 6 prongs for a round stone. I think 4 prongs square the shape of the stone, wheheas the six prongs maintain the roundness.

mrstattoo10816:  I agree with PP, I have a round diamond with 4 prongs and the 4 prongs make the diamond look squared.

I guess it doesn’t look so square up close, but from farther away (like right now typing LOL)

I have 4 prongs. As PPs have said it can make a RB look square. But it depends where they are placed. Mine are at the sides rather than the corners (if that makes any sense!) which stops it from looking square.

I have a 0.7 center stone with four prongs.  It’s true that it can make it look a little square-ish.  I don’t mind whatsoever though.  I do think 6 prongs can make the diamond look a little smaller in comparison – there’s so much metal relative to the diamond’s surface area.

Here’s mine.  Sorry about the giant collage, can’t find an individual ring pic since WB decided to delete all our pics…)

I have a .72 Round Brilliant. I have 6 prongs I like its better than 4 because it does look a little boxy. Plus I’m kind of a cluts so 6 prongs offers some extra security.

Edit: my only con is more little “nooks” to clean. but I found a pointed Q-Tip works wonders!

I have a 6 prong on a round diamond and I absolutely love it. I do think 4 prongs can *sometimes* make round diamonds look a little square, but it often depends on the placement and the size of the prongs. I prefer a more delicate prong and 6 prongs to me showcases the diamond’s roundness and also makes it seem extra secure in the setting.

Here’s mine just because I love it 🙂

I LOVE the look of prongs. As many as will fit, I say!

mrstattoo10816:  I have a 0.75 ct diamond set in a 4 prong white gold setting, but I don’t particularly care for the 4 prong.  There is nothing special about it.  I will be changing mine to a 6 prong rose gold solitaire.  Here is how it currently looks

I say 6 for added security.

lolot:  pretty a ring! a little like mine but with more detailing, although in my case it did have the 6 prongs, I think I didn’t think much about it at the time, but I guess it maintain the round look. My ring is .76 ct 6 prong.
