Where my ladies that remember the 80's fondly and not as retro? Who are you and where are you from.
tksjewelry - 40 - Omaha, NE
That would be me! I am 45, I graduated HighSchool in '84. I was born and raised in Omaha too! I now live in the Quad Cities on the Illinois side.

ETA: jumps up and down that she's the baby so far of the thread. I NEVER get to say that anymore! lollol
ETA some more... perhaps i spoke to soon. TKS is also 40. well it was nice while it lasted. *sigh*
I'm the gramma of the group ;) I'll be Mrs B, 47 next month from sunny San Diego
@tksjewelry: I was in the last graduating class of Omaha Tech. My brother went there that last year then transferred to Benson.
Proudly the last graduating HS class of the 80s! '89
thebobcat - 40
I live in Virginia
44 here! Graduated high school in 1984. Born in raised in Los Angeles. Been in Maine for 5 years now. Oldest son turned 20 today and I don't even know how that happened because I'm still 20 in my mind. lol
I am not 40 something. I am 50 something, but I just wanted to say hello because everyone here is so nice; I really hope no one minds. There really isn't a group that I fit into here.
The 80s were very good to me. That is when I was raising my children, so I do remember them very fondly :-)

"Out the door, in 84!" (That's what we chanted when we graduated high school. ; )
I was thinking about having a 45th birthday party and having the DJ play only songs from the 80's. It is HARD to like the stuff I hear on the radio these days!
@2ndtime: I'm going to reply mostly to bump this thread:) I still love the music today, it's fashion that's finally getting to me. I either hate everything or can't wear it even if I didn't. Those minis and heels! Really??? Lol
@PutABirdOnIt: me too, I still love the old stuff but like alot of the new stuff. DH is stuck, for the most part, in the old hair bands. I told him no more road trips with Dokken turned up full blast. I loved the mini's and heels when you wore them with lace socks, but my rear is in no shape for them anymore. I do still love a great pair of heals, especially now that I can afford good ones. Did you see that the neon oversized off the shoulder sweatshirts are in the stores this year? Like bell bottoms, I wore that once and will not do it again, LOL.
Melissa in the House - age 40 - St. Louis, MO
My all-time favorite 80's movie (1984).....what was yours?

@melisslp: Here is mine, I have two and can't decide which I like better.
![]()
@tksjewelry: Oh God, yes! Neon. Flashdance. I loved making my own off-the shoulder sweatshirts the first time around. lol
I was just in LA for my younger son's high school graduation and the girls there, OMG. I don't know how the hoo-ha doesn't make an appearance as they walk. And the shoes. I like a sexy pair of heels but shoes are crazy high. They actually look crippled when they walk. Count me out of that trend. lol
@PutABirdOnIt: Yeah,I keep mine to 2-3 inches, not platforms for me. I sprained too many ankles back in the day and I don't want to do that again. I made my own sweatshirts too, of course I made alot of my cloths back then. But if sturup pants come back I am staging a revolution. There is no reason for them and too many women who shouldn't wear them wore them anyway and with short shirts - just plain wrong.
@tksjewelry: Ohhh, great choices!! Love the Outsiders! Makes me want to see if my hubby has it on DVD.
I looove this thread!!
40- Wisconsin.
I'm with loving Sixteen Candles!! Here are a few others;

@vicozzie: GOODIES! I love that movie, the Truffle Shuffle, LOL, still makes laugh everytime.
How about some music? ... Journey, Bon Jovi, the Cars, the Gogo's. They say you always go back to the music you listened to from the age of 16-23. Those are your milestone years, 16- drivers licence, 18- legal, 21- legal drinking age (some states), 23- graduate college. When I hear music from those years it brings back a flood of memories and I just love it!!!!
What's everybodys favorite music?
@Ill Be Mrs B: You are so right! Music does flood me with so many memories of such a fun-filled time in my life. Some of my most favorites are:
Another One Bites the Dust by Queen
I Love Rock & Roll by Joan Jett
Mickey by Toni Basil
1999 by Prince
Like a Virgin by Madonna
I Want Your Sex by George Michael
Push It by Salt - n - Pepa
Wild Thing by Tone Loc
I could go on and on.....
@Ill Be Mrs. B - oh yes the music. We had our first dance to Journey. I was more of a punk rock chick myself so...
There was also:
Metalica (when they were still good)
Anthrax
The Smiths
The Smithereens
Minor threat
Suicidal Tendencies
REM
UB40
Violent Femmes
For our wedding I so wanted to play Suicidal Tendencies "I saw your mommy" but DH said his mom would not appriciate it. My mom still knows all the words to it, she took me to all their shows. We compromised with "Institutionalized". LOL. "All I wanted was a pepsi, just a freaking pepsi, and I'm crazy". I just love that song.
I can't believe that No One mentioned these movies! Go-80's have you noticed that the Neon Colors and the clothing styles are showing up in the stores.

@tksjewelry: I know this is from last night, but I HAD to respond to stirrup pants! I wore mine with jellie flats and a Tom Tom Club sweatshirt. lol Those were the worst trend ever.
As far as music goes, I saw REM in a little tiny club that held maybe 100 people. That was maybe 1984. Crazy how big they got.
Also, let's not forget the Thompson Twins, Plimsouls (Valley Girl anyone?), Psychadelic Furs Grandmaster Flash, Run DMC. Dead or Alive, Tear For Fears (I have a great Roland story if anyone is interested:)
Oh, and how about more obscure music: Generation X (Billy Idol before he was Billy Idol:), The Specials, Madness, The Jam, Aztec Camera, Naked Eyes,
YES TEARS FOR FEARS STORY!!! Do tell! I saw REM the same way, they actually crashed at a friends house where my mom was watching after the teens while the parents were out of town. Bands stayed there all the time, so my mom got to meet tons of the college bands back then.
@tksjewelry: Okay, Tears For Fears was like my favorite 80s band. Ever. When I was in my late 30s and living in the Hollywood Hills, Roland Orzabal (one half of TFF) moved in right behind us. And it just so happened that his kids were the same age as mine and they became very good friends. To the point where my boys were invited to their castle in England for the summer. Oh.My.Effing.God.
I had only met his wife (she's perfect, naturally. It's sickening. lol) at th point we all decided to take the kids to lunch and then to the new Star Wars movie. Now, I am not they type to get star struck. My yoga class looked like a reunion of the WB. I still can't turn on the t.v today without seeing someone I know. I've been on red carpets, parties, premieres, blah, blah, blah. And I am a nobody but my ex is an Industry exec. so I've met and entertained a lot of celebs.
Anyway sitting across the table from Roland, I was freaking out. A total basket case. I could hardly look at him let alone engage in idle chit-chat. But in that town you always have to act so cool and above it all, even if inside you're screaming like you just saw a Beatle. Which I was. lol
Okay, the point of this story is that back in 1984 while I was dancing to Pale Shelter in someone's college apartment with a shag rug, I never in a million years thought I would one day have children and my children would meet his children and that is how we would meet. Life is just so random and weird. All right, that's my story. Oh, and our kids are stil friends.
Tracie - 41 - born and raised Baltimore hon!
Movie - The Lost Boys!
Music - Big hair bands, Def Lep, Europe, Cinderella, Warrant, White Snake..OMG remember that sexy ass dude from Slaughter?? Mark? <slurp> Something about a guy with long hair and eyeliner that crinkles my innards! And who could forget "It takes two to make a thing go ri-ight..it takes two to make it out 'a sight!" Im STILL an 80s music junkie and have no problem confessing that 8 out of 10 cds in my car are 80s music :)
@Oneeleven: you are gettng married on my birthday!
Hello Ladies! :) 41 here, (still feel 25 though!) and this is my second wedding. Love all the over 40 bees on here! :)
As for movies, anything by John Hughes still makes me stop dead in front of the tv and plunk my ass down for the duration. <3 Loved the 80's!
@PutABirdOnIt: I know exactly that feeling. I had a similar thing happen in politics.
Ozzy Osborne bought me and Ice Cream once, his guy was picking up his laundry while he was standing outside "smoking", the little girl I was baby sitting was disabled and quite charming. He thought she was so sweet that he walked into the baskin robins with us and paid for our order. All I could say was "Your Ozzy, Your Ozzy, Your Ozzy" I felt like an idiot later, but I was only 14, BUT IT WAS FREAKING OZZY!
@TeamMcGowan: I remember most of those concerts! I still laugh at some HS friends, we went to go see Montly Crue and Striper. They are all jamming away to Striper and I told them it was a christian band, they didn't believe me until they opened up the tapes that they bought and looked at the words. I was the total shock on their faces that I laugh at, hysterical!
@GDub: John Hughes was a genious!
Nice to see so many GenXers on the boards!
