It has taken me all this time to come down off of cloud 9 to write a post 🙂 I wasn’t officially on the waiting list, and my wait time was a bit short in comparison to some, but due to visa/immigration issues and apartment/lease issues, I have been going out of my mind with anxiety! Now all that anxiety has completely melted away. I was 90% sure he was going to propose on the 10th of July because his office was hosting a party at the place where we met. So, despite all the weird things he was doing on the 4th, I just kept rationalizing it because I thought he was going to do it on the 10th.
Both of us hate the heat, and are not really into 4th of July (Washington DC is unbelievably hot and crowded on this particular holiday). So, on the 4th he wanted to take me to lunch, which was odd because we usually do our own thing and then meet up for dinner. Then he wanted to take me to my favorite fountain, he was carrying a man-satchel/bag, and he was totally quiet the whole time (he’s normally really talkative). I thought he was having a nervous breakdown or was going to break up with me or something, it was just so out of character for him. FINALLY, when he handed me a jar of jewelry cleaner I figured it out and started laughing. After we joked around a bit, he said “I want to do this properly” and got down on one knee in front of all those melting tourists and proposed (with a ring, not the jewelry cleaner). It was so much better than I had anticipated, and despite my efforts to convince him that the surprise element wasn’t important, I was suprised and it was wonderful!
