So Mr Podo and I are getting hitched in October I have a wedding venue, a photographer & videographer, the invitations picked out, a color scheme selected, my wedding gown picked out as well as the BM’s gowns…so it would seem that I have many major decisions made…..and it is true, BUT……the only issue I see is that the $$ that Papa Podo had said he would provide is not anywhere in sight…..so it has caused a lil anxiety to form….. Our parents have not yet met to discuss the details of our union and it won’t happen until next month so I’m thinking the $$ should be rolling in after that….
Overall I am finding the wedding planning process rather fun even though we only have 5 months……I’m a procrastinator anyway…so it works out well that it happened this way. I’m so excited and I feel so blessed…..I live with Mr Podo and I am so grateful to have found a partner in crime to live out the rest of my life with….*sniffle tear* That song from Moulin Rouge that Niicole Kidman sang comes to mind …"Never knew it could be like this….like I’d never seen the sun before…." such a nice song….
Ok back to reality….so the BIG DAY is coming soon and I have to find a DJ/Master of ceremonies who will be cooperative…I am not concerned about our friends joining in on the festivities….give them some booze and they’re good to go…but it’s the friends of our parents…our ASIAN parents…that I’m concerned about…they have the EAT & GO mentality and that sounds good, but I would like them to have a good time while they are with us….and it’s important that the Master of ceremonies is not a drag…so anyone have any suggestions? Oh and how bout a great florist who won’t dent Papa Podo’s bank account? Yikes….I know to save $$ DIY’s are the way to go…but I’m so not the meticulous type…I’m no Martha freakin Stewart, but who really is??? Oh…yeah….lots of the BEE bloggers here..oops…well, if anyone has suggestions…lemme know…the wedding will be in a mansion… eeeeek can’t wait…….

MissPodo you crack me up! I have no advice, as I am about as far from Rhode Island as you can get, but I know you are going to have lots of fun looking over your alternatives and getting everything in place. Your dad probably doesn’t realize how far in advance things need to be done – mine had no clue – so you might get busy researching alternatives and then get your mom involved helping to get the ball rolling. I have a few, tiny DIY projects but too much else to do (moving, getting a house ready to sell) to have any fun with paper, and I will be way too stressed on the day before to mess with flowers! Best of luck to you with all the details!

MissPodo, I highly recommend Laurie @ Lincoln Gardens… she’s super nice & willing to work with any budget. She’s doing our whole wedding party (7 girls, 7 guys plus all the famliy units) for $800 including delivery & taxes…

MissPodo, it is absolutely great to hear how excited you are to marry your man.
I completely understand the whole Asian parents thing. Not only are you dealing w/ a generational gap, but a cultural gap, too. If dad has committed to providing funding (which it sounds like he has), I think you should talk to him now and say directly, "Dad, you mentioned that you would provide $XX to the cost of the wedding. We’ve made a lot of progress and deposits and payments are coming due, so can you give us an idea on when and how you’d like to contribute, so we can manage our budget?"
Don’t focus too hard on trying to get your parents friends to stay, you’ll just cause a lot of stress and end up disappointed. Focus on planning the party of your dreams based on what you want, and whoever sticks around gets to benefit..primarily you and your man!

I HIGHLY recommend Jeremy Giroux with Check the Florist. I made my centerpieces, so we only had to purchase my bouquet, the mother’s nose gays, the bridesmaids bouquets and the guys boutenniers plus 8 hydrangea rounds for the cones we put on our chairs. Total cost: around $250 and the flowers were AMAZING!! He is super great to work with and totally ‘gets’ it.
His email is: [email protected]
Let him know Mrs Corn from weddingbee sent you.
