So this is my 2nd marriage & we want to include my 5 year old son from previous marriage as much as possible. My Fiance is the only real dad my son has ever known, his bio dad doesn’t have anything to do with him at all. Son will be the ringbearer, but we wanted to do something more permanent for him that symbolizes our new family & our commitment to him as his parents. Any ideas Bees?

oilfieldhoney: A lot of families with kids opt to do a sand ceremony. Perhaps you can incorporate that in (don’t know if you were planning on the unity candle lighting but this could be in addition to or in place of).

Yes, I’ve seen the sand ceremony done and it is a very nice way of acknowledging that the new marriage includes children.

I heard about doing a family vow asking your son up with you guys. I found this sample that i thought was cute.
Do you promise to love, respect and protect each other from this day forward?
All 3: “I Promise!”
Do you promise to always try to be the best person you can be?
All 3: “I Promise!”
Do you promise to accept the responsibility of being a family, and encourage, and support each other in your new life together?
All 3: “I Promise!”
