@cc226: We only had to give $100 deposit. We’re doing centerpieces ourselves so our total services will be about $1200. That seems high, I would ask why.

Our deposit was $30. We said “$30? Really, that’s it?!” They said that they’re a busy florist and they have no problem filling dates. They’re confident they don’t need any more than that from us to keep our business.

With my videographer, it was a 50% deposit, and most photographers we talked to it was also 50%. So maybe that’s just a standard vendor deposit in your area? I haven’t done flowers yet so I’m not sure…

The florists I talked to varied a lot in their deposit requirements.  My florist asked for $100 deposit, and I think some I talked to wanted a certain percentage.  It usually depends on how much other business they do besides your wedding.  Basically, having you pay a large deposit is like an insurance policy in case you cancel after it’s too late to find another customer for that day.

our deposit was about 20% if i remember correctly

mine was 50%.  it varies to be honest.
