Check out the Ebell of Los Angeles.
http://www.herecomestheguide.com/southern-california/wedding-venues/ebell-of-los-angeles/
It's a beautiful historic venue, built in the late 1920's. Lots of original detail, and beautiful ballroom! You can get a good deal if you have your wedding during the week.
Also, check out some venues in Palm Springs. Lots of 50's inspired retro places. You could rent a house for a day and bring in your own caterer, alcohol, etc... Rental prices for the weekend are high, but if you are willing do a Thurs or Fri you can get a better deal. Hotels and country clubs are going to have a high minimum for a sat or sun evening.
Good luck and congrats!
OMG, im new bee and i have the exact same theme/question...everything iv come across is sooooo expensive and we are on a super super tight budget...please let me kno if you found any great venues

Hi!!!! Im so excited that I found this board. I am trying desparately to find 1930s-1950s venues in Southern California. All of my ideas (old theaters, old hotels, etc) are too pricey. I would like to keep the venue rental under $3000 if possible. I do not want to spend more than about $6000 total on my wedding and am willing to do as much DIY as possible. ANy ideas? Thanks SOOO much!
