Suggestions on finding the perfect dress? Time is running out...

posted 3 months ago in Beehive

Sisters sharing planning success and failures and stress,

I am looking for an A-line dress with princess (vertical) seems that has delicate beading and embroidery.   I found a few dresses I really like by designer Matthew Christopher and he seems to specialize in the delicate work I admire.  My problem is the cost of his dresses are more then twice the amount in my budget for a dress.

I figure more then a few of you, my fellow wedding planners, have looked at a LOT of dresses lately.  I have been to a dozen stores now and have looked on line a great deal.

My favorite dresses so far are Matthew Christopher's Marchessa (style 2710 from 2007 collection) and Trellis (style 2700).  They are both over $3,000 and I've been trying to find adorable alterative.  I even like the construction of David's Bridal V8756, but not the beading and embroidery.

I liked the beading and embroidery of Maggie Sottero's Felicity, but would prefer princess seams that play up my long slender waist.

Any suggestions of other similar dresses to try?  Help!  I need to order a dress soon, my wedding will be in Sept or Oct of '08, but we just got engaged 2 weeks ago.

Thanks for your help!

What size are you looking for? I just bought a dress that is a size 14 (Crystal Belle) that is just a tad too small.

I agree you should check out casablanca dresses.  Also you should know that you can ask them to remove beading from their designs when you order your dress.  I didn't like the heavy beading that was around the bottom of my dress and I had them leave it off and it looks so much better (IMO anyway).  So if you find a dress that has too much beading you might ask if they can remove some of it to give the delicate look you're going for.

If you are still looking for one, you should also check out stores that carry that dress and ask when they have their sample sale or if they have older models they are selling of the rack.

Thank you all for your help!

I ended up with an Eve of Milady dress that was a Sample that was discontinued.  More embroidery and less beading then I originally had in mind, but I love it none the less, it cost me $1,500 not 3K and thank you all so much for your help.
