Though we had agreed on a timeline to get engaged before the end of June, things were pushed back a bit due to a delayed ring (the jeweler had a baby!), the worst sunburn I’ve ever seen (like with blisters and ew), and a seriously 3 full weekends of family obligations.
Of course I had no idea what the hold up was, and water torture sounded like a better alternative to waiting another day past our timeline. After making sure that he remembered and he wasn’t getting cold feet (coming to his senses), I buckled down and got ready for the next two months of agony.
I was hoping with all my little heart that he would propose for my birthday this Sat, but when he invited me out for an impromptu bike ride… lets just say my spidey sense was tingling.
And so there we were overlooking the Crystal Springs Reservoir, sun shining, blue skies. I was pointing out hawks and deer, and he was digging though his bike bag. I was NOT LOOKING becauseohcrapisthishappening??
And then he was standing in front of me telling me he loved me and wanted to grow old with me and GETTING ON HIS KNEE OH SHIT AND LOOK A RING MINE!
And then we were all cute and I jumped around a lot, and we ate ice cream and drank champagne.
Until I realized that I now have to plan a wedding. Uh what?
TO BE CONTINUED…
PS this Sept will be 9 years together, and these were my mantras durning the whole “waiting” thang:
Comparison is the thief of joy
Practice good communication with your partner.
Emotions are like the weather, you can feel it, but you don’t have to react to it.
Thank you everyone and best wishes!

@aokay: hahaha I loved reading this!!! It sounds awesome. Congratulations!!! Can’t wait to see the ring. 🙂 Just make sure you give your new fiancé as much attention as the ring, I just grinned at mine and wiggled my fingers while he tried valiantly to recapture my attention. I still look at it all the time and smile. Ahhh, so much happiness.

@aokay: My FH and I were also together almost 9 years before he proposed. Congratulations on your engagement!
I also agree with your mantras, lol. There were days I had to really keep myself composed and focus on other things. Not obsessing over the proposal helped and allowed me to live my life. What matters in the end is not the proposal, but the life you will live together after the wedding.
