Yay for you! As someone who, as a kid, decided to play softball instead of soccer because of the amount of running, I think I know where you're coming from. A few years ago, I wanted to get into running for getting into shape and losing weight purposes. My best friend and I registered for a 5K as a goal, and it definitely helps having the goal! The program that I used was the Couch to 5K Running Plan, and it was extremely helpful. I recommend it to friends all the time. Here's the website:

What I like most about the plan is that it goes in baby steps to build your confidence and keeps you doing it, instead of jumping in too fast and discouraging you. I'd say the two things that worked the most for me to stay motivated was having an ally in my best friend to keep me going, and that the program is so manageable. Good luck to you, and I hope you succeed!
oh wow that site is great, thank you!! I actually downloaded the couch to 5k app for my ipod awhile back but it had some glitches and didn't work properly. I didn't know there was also a website for it- i might try that!
I have definitely had trouble finding a running partner down at school my dad is a xc coach and my mom and fmil have recently started running so whenever i get home i get inspired but as soon as im back at school it's all pizza and beer! haha
the soccer/softball decision cracked me up by the way!

OK Ladies, I am signing up for a 5K on November 25th (My birthday!!)
I'm not sure my purpose in posting this but I think if I say it enough and enough people know about it I won't back out!! I sincerely hope this will motivate me to get my butt moving!
Anyone started running recently?? Any tips to stay motivated? I'm really hoping that having something to work towards will be helpful!
