i have quite a few 'maids. i already decided we're doing all the same color & have already picked one dress everyone likes/ is flattering to them & my dress. now im second guessing. did you girls pick the same dress for all your girls or let them choose different styles?  i like the look of varied dresses but most of the one's ive seen are for smaller parties.  most large parties i see online are wearing the same dress/ same color. is it too much "sameness"?

    what are you doing?

I think varied dresses actually look better for larger parties!  Sometimes if a small bridal party wears different dresses they just look mismatched, but you have enough girls to show a theme while still not having the girls look like they're wearing exactly the same dress.  The key is to either have them all wear the exact same dress but in different colours, or have them all wear a dress that is by the same designer in the same colour and fabric but each can choose their own dress style.  Either way looks great.  Don't worry if you've already purchased the same exact dress for each girl though - that always looks nice too.  But if you haven't ordered yet and you really like the mix & match look, you have a good size bridal party to pull it off so go for it.

I let my (five) bridesmaids pick from two different styles (same color and fabric), but they all ended up picking the same style!

I also have 6 and they are all wearing their chosen style from the Aria dress line, in midnight.  3 picked v-neck, one picked halter, one picked bateau neck, and one will be in one of the maternity styles.  It worked out great for us, and I'd highly recommend it. I was worried that 5 would pick one style, and one would be odd-man-out, but it worked out beautifully!

I have 6 maids and I gave them the option of 3 dresses in one color and 2 dresses in another color (hopefully it will look complimentary).  I have 5 different dresses and the colors are 3 and 3.  I'm really excited to see how it turns out.  Everyone picked the colors and styles themselves (though I did "guide" my sister to pick a different dress than she originally picked - hey she offered to change! and that was the same color different style)

we had 6 bridesmaids and 2 junior bridesmaids.  The six bridesmaids ended up wearing the same dress because  they only had 4 dresses that came in that color and only 2 fit the criteria-- we picked the prettier of the two and it fit everyone really well.  The junrior bridesmaids wore dresses of similar style to the bridesmaids, but they were a lighter color (and had spaghetti straps).  I love the look of different dresses, though, and definitely considered the option.  One of my bridesmaids is getting married this fall and is also having 6 bridesmaids (plus 1 junior bridesmaid).  She let everyone pick their own dress in one of two colors- I think the overall effect will be beautiful!

I am probably having 5 bridesmaids (we havn't decided regarding my sisters yet, since we don't know if he is having his brothers).  I am planning on doing the same color or 2 colors and letting them pick thier own tea length style in the same fabric and 2 colors.  They vary so much in build that to have the same style would be really unflattering.  One ov my girls looks amazing in high necks, one his on the heavier side, one is a size 00 because she is so small bones and is flat chested and one athleticlly built and one is very curvy.  The same style would never work on all of them.  They also ahve very different skin tones so that is an issue as well.

we're looking into 3 different dress styles, all in the same color/ fabric. they're all long, 2 are strapless & 1 is a halter style. not everyone has tried it on yet, but those who have are happy. we even know who'd wear each style! but now my fi is concerned bc the halter shows more cleavage than the other 2 styles and much more than what i will be showing, since the rest of us are all wearing straight across strapless. sigh. id hate to be my bm's right now, we're so indecisive!!

I am in a similar situation with 6 bridesmaids... I love the look of everyone in the same dress, but the last few weeks (ok, who am i kidding - the last few MONTHS) have been a disaster trying to find a dress that looks good on everyone.  Does anyone have links to pictures of their bridal party in different dresses?  I'm just wondering what ti looks like when everyone isn't in the same dress.

I have 6 bridesmaids, and they are all wearing the same flattering dress.  it's so personal what you like.  I made my decision after going to a wedding where the party wore the same color & brand in different styles - personally I didn't like the mix of halter, strapless, etc etc so I just decided to see if I could find one dress they all like! I like the simplicity and classic look of the same lines on everyone - but I think more people lean towards the mix and match approach.

And to make sure I didn't pick a style they didn't like, they got to vote among 8-10 dresses and everyone had veto power :)

I have 6 bridesmaids too -- all different sizes from 0-14 so I chose 2 styles of dresses in the same color - deep red - one is a strapless and the other is a v-neck with a little more coverage. Everyone was able to chose their own style and I ended up with 1/2 & 1/2. I'm making the dress more of a cocktail length instead of tea length so its more flattering. All the girls love them and they were super affordable too - I used netbride.com. I didnt want the whole same dress look because I thought it looks like everyone is in the army... Good Luck!

Thank you for all of the great suggestions - can anyone point me to a link (doesn't have to be yours) of pictures?  I just can't visualize what the end product will look like.

i am toying with the idea of putting my 6 (or 8... it's not 100% decided yet) girls in the same style dress with 2 or 3 different colors.

i definitely think that having a larger party gives more room for mismatching and still having a very clear theme.

I have 7 bridesmaids. I am letting them pick any of the espresso taffeta styles excluding the first one with the sleeves. I may have my sister, the MOH, wear a fuschia drsss to tie in our color scheme more. I have 7 bridesmaids and 2 junior bridesmaids.  at first, i wanted everyone in different style dresses in the same color but i was having a hard time finding the colors i really wanted.  then i changed my mind and really wanted something different and wanted mt BMs in a printed dress.  So when this Tracy Reese dress went on sale at Nordstroms that had all my colors in it, I knew this was the dress b/c it was a dress they can wear again.  What I did was have 4 girls in the printed dress and 3 girls in a solid to offset the busy print.  So I'm having the girls lined up as print- solid-print..etc. here's where I got the solid dress from Watters & Watters (WaToo collection). So instead of the the solid pink, it's the print dress that will be next to the solid browns. Then the JR BMs will be in the solid pink. Gosh.. I hope it turns out how I'm invisioning it!!!  So you don't always have to follow the traditional route. =)

I have eight bridesmaids (!!) and have chosen to go with one dress style, one color–the traditional route. However, they can wear whatever shoes they want and do their hair however so they don't look like twins.

I feared letting each one pick out a different dress in the same fabric/color because I have many girls with similar body types. I worried that instead of eight different dresses and a neat chaotic look, I would end up with two this style and three this style, etc. Which in my mind COULD potentially be a MESS.

I say do what you want! I love the idea ecochicbride had.

    Good luck with your decision!

For pictures, check David's Bridal website....the "Dress Your Wedding" has a number of photos of bridesmaids in different but coordinating dresses.

i just wanted to let you all know what we ended up going with since there are so many great suggestions on here!  we chose 2 dresses in a similar style but in the same color & fabric.  both are strapless w/ a side ruched front detail- but one has a brooch on the ruching & the other has light beading design that mimics my dress beading on the chest area.  from far away (like in the church or even in some photos) i imagine they both look the same but up close in person my bms wont be (exact) clones. the neckline also matches my dress instead of throwing in a random halter or other sleeved style top. i also told them to pick their own shoes/ hair/ jewlery. whew. now that everything's ordered & coming in, the dress-stress seems so far away. good luck to everyone else who is deciding!

I have 5 attendants and I didn't mind either varied dresses or the same for the girls. after trying a plethora of dresses, we collectively opted to do different dresses Thread (dress styles are: diane, breck, shannon, sarah, elijah) in the same colour and material. Each dress suits the individual girl's personality and flatters their figure so we all couldn't be any happier.

    good luck!
