I have exactly six months to go. I'm having a hard time knowing where to start on my to-do list, but I actually bought some wedding related things today! Yay! Just thought I would share... people around me are getting tired of hearing about wedding stuff I think, but I mean come on, six months is a big deal right?

6 months minus one day to go!!  Of course its a big deal!  I know what you mean though, people don't want to hear about every little wedding thing that we do.  I guess thats why we're on here right!

I'm having trouble knowing just what to do next too.  I'm probably missing a ton of things that I should be doing!

What have you accomplished so far?  Here's what I've done:

    1. I have my dress- still needs to be altered but that won't happen until September.

    2. Have picked out bm dresses.  They aren't ordered yet but should be soon.

    3. Have booked ceremony and reception locations.

    4. We've actually already sent out invitations becuase about 1/3 of our 200 guest list will be coming from Ontario and we are in BC.

    5. we basically know what the groomsmen are going to wear, but haven't been fitted yet.  We did order a tie online that matches the bridesmaids to see if it will work.

    6. we have our photographer and he's done our engagement photos.  (He's going to be doing boudoir photos for me as my groom gift as well!)

    7. I'm getting a custom made cake topper from Etsy.com for $45

    8. since our reception venue is an all-in-one wedding package deal, we have a florist, cake, dj, food and drinks, and decorations included, so over the next six minths we have to make appointments wilth all of them...

    9.  We generally know the style of everything that we want, so I don't forsee any big issues.

I know there's still so much to do, but just not sure what! What have you got on your list of thing to do?

I was 6 months yesterday too! We have all the vendors except the cake - but that's only technically since we have our tasting next weekend. 6 months is totally a big deal and I agree that we're on here so we AREN'T annoying the crap out of our loved ones:) I'm off to start my long list of DIYs... at 6 months I feel like most of the stuff left is projects and details. Good luck to everyone hitting the 6 month mark!

Yay for other 6 month people! Here's what we have done so far... a lot of the big stuff, I guess it's where to start on the details that's killing me...

    • Booked venue, same location for ceremony and reception
    • Reserved tent for outdoor reception
    • Have my dress/shoes/veil
    • Picked out a ordered bridesmaid dresses
    • Picked out flower girl dresses
    • Have DJ, yet to meet with him though...
    • Met with cake lady and made down payment
    • Have officiant (my pastor). half-way through pre-wedding meeting
    • Have photographer (a friend)
    • Food. My family is doing it.
    • Found material to make tablecloths, runners. Still need to buy it.
I have a pretty firm idea of what everything is going to look like. Things that are hard-core stressing me out right now...
    • Invitations. I'm diy-ing pocketfolds and inserts. I think I'll order the paper today. I'm scared I'm not going to like them after I get them done...
    • Engagement pictures. I feel like we're behind on doing them. I wasn't planning to do them until next month, is that too late?
    • Flowers. We're ordering them in bulk and diy-ing them with friends. I was on a national floriculture team for FFA, but it's one of those things that can't be done till last minute and I'm afraid of them dying, freezing, wilting, etc.
@pennyp - Sometimes I think it sounds like heaven to have a venue that comes with basically everything. I know my inner perfectionist is better off with me finding everything myself, but still the lack of stress may be worth it. My venue comes with tables and chairs. And that's about it.

What all DIY projects are you guys planning on doing?

@ j_nicolle: I'm doing a bunch. But with 6 months left ANYTHING can be accomplished!

    • Invitations, still figuring out all the pieces
    • Seperate invite for the Welcome Dinner (finished designing today - whoo hoo)
    • Moss covered letters
    • Guestbook frame (bought frame, need to draw and cut out silhouettes for signing)
    • Table runners
    • Ring bearer pillow
    • Wood signs like "Almost there!" for around the reception campus (it's big, woodsy, and a bit confusing)
    • Sew embroidered labels on campfire throws
    • Envelope box
    • Jewelry for MOH and myself
    • Seating chart and tabel signs
    • BM gifts (maybe)

Whew. I think that's all. I'm doing them in a certain order so things at the end can be cut. Right now it's all about mind over matter... it'll get done:)

Hey there! I am 6 months out this coming Friday...FI and I were just talking about this last weekend. We are doing the long distance thing and I woke up my last morning at his place with him spooning up to me in bed, he gave me a big hug and said can you believe it's 6 months away? I remember when it was 10 months away and that seemed to far away! FI is excited too! That makes me very happy that he is looking forward to it as much as I am. He sent me a goofy text yesterday that said he'd sat outside for about an hour daydreaming about our life together...so cheesy and I LOVE IT!

I wrote a long post yesterday in Beehive about everything that has gotten done and girls...everything is done except for one major thing...finding a bridesmaids dress. I'll tell you-my sister is my MOH and my best friend is my other BM and it is hard to find something that is burgundy or navy blue (at this point, I'll even settle for a deep plum color) short sleeve or 3/4 length sleeve, just a nice, pretty dress. Everything is halter top, sleeveless, strapless, spagetti straps-and not to offend anyone, but looks like it belongs on a 20-something BM-both of mine are mid 30's. We did find one style that we liked and then found out it was almost $300 and that is just too much. We all have mortgages and kids, spending that amount of money translates to alot of pairs of shoes for everyone's kids and they both have three kids, so I don't feel okay with asking them to spend that amount of money on a dress to wear for 3 or 4 hours.

Besides that...EVERYTHING else is done!!!! I couldn't be happiers, and aside from a rehearsal dinner double booking (which was handled quickly and resolved with terrific results-read this saga in my long post in the Hive) wedding planning has gone smoothly and has been relatively painless!  I am so ridiuclously happy that I have to pinch myself to be sure it is real! :)

@ liztwinz: Does it have to have sleeves for weather or preference? I'm putting my flower girl in a white dress with a red cardigan (we're casual and outdoors) but what if you did a dress with a cover up, bollero, or little jacket?

Both of my gals requested sleeves-I'm open to a jacket, sweater, shrug, or bolero. My dress has flutter sleeves and is off white. It would be nice to find something with flutter sleeves, but not necessary. I think both ladies would be open to a shawl or wrap of some sort, but they tend to get in the way-sliding off the shoulders, etc. My daughter is my flowergirl and her dress is off white like mine, and sleeveless, but she has a little organza cape that can go over her shoulders  if it is cool. The weather in October here can be as high as the 80's or as low as the 60's. I'm hoping for mid 60's or low 70's.

@Tee - "But with 6 months left ANYTHING can be accomplished!"... Oh, how you give me hope! You're making your girl's jewelry? Are you going to follow a pattern or make it up? I looked at Michael's the other day for stuff to make bridesmaid jewelry and I was a little shocked at the price of the stuff I needed...

@liztwinz - Kudos to you for having so much done! Where have you been looking for dresses? About the colors, it may be this time of year that is making it hard to find those colors at "regular" stores. I was talking to my mom about her getting a "fall" colored dress to wear, and we're waiting till July when stores start carrying fall attire again.

I'm also hoping for good weather. October in Missouri can be as low as the 30's-40's or sweltering hot. Temperature I can deal with I think. Rain, not so much, since everything is outside. Hopefully if it does decide to rain, it will wait until everyone is under the tent for the reception.

I should also make a list of which order to do my DIY projects in... hmmm.

@ j_nicolle: for my sister (MOH) jewelry I bought some pieces off Etsy for super cheap... like 3 lockets for $7! I'm going to make "cluster" necklace like the one below. I have some supplies already so it'n not too expensive. Some of my BMs said they have gold necklaces so they're all set. I might throw a few together so the ones that don't won't have to buy anything.

    http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=23451734

AND I got little round lockets from the same seller (PandorasBeadBox) to make earrings for myself. I'm going to put a picture of my parents in one side and my grandparents in the other side - like "marry for love, marry for life".

    Good luck and Happy holiday!

I DEFINITELY think 6 months is a BIG deal! It made me realize it's REALLY happening AND I need to get motivated and work on my projects! I still have a lot to do though!

    So far I've BOOKED:

    • church and venue
    • caterer and cake lady
    • dj
    • photographer
    • officiant (pastor)
    • organist (in process)
    • videographer (friend)

My DIY projects (italicized are done!) include:

    • invitations (halfway done)
    • formal guestbook
    • hair flower
    • Wedding party t-shirts - in process
    • Custom Cake Topper - got to paint
    • Save the dates
    • Centerpieces - getting there
    • Makeup and Hair -  haven't started AT ALL
    • BM Totes
    • Newsletter -done and gotta print!
    • garter
    • Signs (instructions for wish bowl, guest poster, etc.)
    • Wish Bowl
    • Thank you cards (for after wedding)
    • Glass Ornaments (to accompany Thank you card for after wedding since it'll be almost December! :)
    • Card Box
    • Photosharing Cards
    • Favor tags
    • Photo Line or Slideshow
    • Programs
    • Menu cards
    • Memory Boxes - don't know if I'll really do this yet
    • Aisle Runner - undecided too
    • Fun Facts about us at each table
    • Bride & Groom reserved table signs
    • FLOWERS!
    • Ribbons for boutonnieres

Whew! I think that's it for now. I'm sure there's a couple I'm forgetting! Currently, my biggest MUST-DO right now it to find MY DRESS (!!!) and figure out what to do to pull off a successful mocktail hour! I also need to find out who will serve as the "wedding planner". It'll probably be our mothers but we'll see!

@ j _nicolle: I'm DIYing my flowers too! FI's grandmother used to work for a florist but I'm still so scared that something will happen at the last minute! Where are you getting your flowers? I'm considering buying them from Fifty Flowers...till I find a local farmer's market around here that carries seperate flower stems in the colors I want! Are you going to do trials? I need to do one soon!

hi, ladies! I know...six months! I have all the big stuff done (venue, dress, etc) but I'm starting to panic a little about the little details....I'm afraid that I'll get close to the date and realize that I don't have a pen for the guestbook, or don't have rides planned for people.  It's frustrating because I can't do some of this stuff ahead of time, but I'll be in grad school this fall, so I am scared of having a ton of stuff to do the week before. Is this inevitable? Is there no way I can avoid a last minute rush? Help!

I  just got engaged 2 months ago and got tons done. You can get a lot done in 2 months. Don't fret. Even if you are starting now, I think if you work hard..you can breathe easily by July and just start to enjoy your parties. I have to take a wedding planning hiatus in May b/c we just found a place to buy and move into so wedding plans are on the back burner. :)but not Wedding bee....

*lol* And here I was thinking I was at the 'boring' part where I've got the big stuff taken care of and it's too soon for the rest, but this thread is lighting a bit of a fire  under my butt!

      So far {we've}:

      • booked the venue (going for our tasting next week!)
      • booked the photographer
      • booked officiant
      • ordered the flowers
      • ordered my dress
      • decided on {most of} men's attire
      • sent Save-the-Date's
      • looked at dresses for 2 of the 3 girls

      Still need to:

      • decide on table centerpieces (DIY) & runners (DIY)
      • make escort cards (DIY, a fun but big project planned!)
      • make all our jewelry (you can get great supplies on Etsy - much better prices than Michaels! I know, it's what I do! *lol*)
      • order the guys shirts (custom), socks (colourful) and ties
      • figure out my accessories
      • decide on a bakery
      • make the ring bearer's pillow & flower girls pomander (DIY)
      • plus all the other paper goods... (we're emailing invites)

@evefisher - make yourself a timeline, work backwards from the start of school and list everything you have to get done, and when you'd like it done by (give yourself a 1 to 2 week window, just in case!). Having it all on paper has sure helped me!

      Congrats on your progress, ladies!

Last week my fiancee and I decided to push up our wedding date from May 2010 to October 2009. Yay!  I didn't want to wait over a year to get married! (we got engaged in March 2009)

So we're currently in the "finding venues" stage and I am so lost as to what size and quality of soiree to host.

I have a to-do list...although nothing is really checked off... but I'm not worried about the 6 months time frame at all.

It's the budget that has me freaking out.  I am CHEAP but don't want a cheap wedding.  Ahh! :)

We are 6 mo out as well. It feels like I have a lot done, but like the lists above, there are many "little" things left to do.
