Hi all.... we just started trying a couple months ago. As I mentioned, I'm somewhere around 6 or 7 days late, and 2 negative HPTs! Here is my info:

First day of last period - March 5th or 6th

LH Surge on March 27th -- did the deed on March 29th.

I've been tracking my cycles for the last few months and I tend to be around 32 or 33 days.

So today I'm at 37/38 days.

I took an HPT on 4/7 - negative, and another one on Sunday 4/20 - negative.

I've never been this late! and I've never skipped -- what is the deal??? Any ideas? Did I test too early?? Thanks guys!!!

If you actually ovulated that late in your cycle (24 days after your LMP is def. on the long side) you could still be pregnant but not have enough hormones yet for it to register.  I would keep testing every morning/every other morning with fingers crossed!

that said, you also might have ovulated earlier - when I took OPKs it showed an initial surge (ovulation) and another surge a week or so later (I don't know what this was caused by)....so maybe you ovulated earlier in your cycle than you think?  When I came off BC (not sure if you were on the pill?) my periods were not regular for a few months, so that is a possibility to if your body is still adjusting.

@janna19 --- thanks! yes - I was on birth control, but I went off about 7 months ago. the first few months my cycles were at around 35 and 40 days, then it leveled out to around 30 days, and the past four months it's been a steady 32/33 days.

good to know about your experience with OPK's though! those things are tricky. we also were having sex the week prior, so I guess we'll see!

I'm going to test again tomorrow morning.... hope i get a +  !!

@ADMBoston: yeah I found the OPKs a bit tricky, but I wasn't into the temping and cervical mucus thing so it was the best we had :)  Keeping my fingers crossed for you....have you found yourself peeing more often? that was my first sign....I didn't test until a good 5 days late myself, so I was positive by then!

BTW if you actually had a surge on the 27th, I think the 29th would generally be pushing it to be able to get preggers unless you also did earlier.....

@Janna19 -- thanks again! i know, hopefully a positive soon - how far along are you?... yeah, i'll do the OPKs, but not the other temping, at least not yet, we've only been trying about 3 months.

I hear you on the timing - when i got the LH surge, we weren't together until the 29th, so I actually figured this wouldn't be our month, but now with the late period it's got me questioning again...

not peeing more often than normal, i don't think - i've been trying to drink a lot of water lately so i'm always in & out of the bathroom at work. i have noticed a few other minor things, but I'm not sure if i'm talking myself into them because I'm thinking of it, or if it's real!

@ADMBoston: OPKs are good, but if you don't test twice a day you can easily miss ovulation. Also, the number of days between the first day of your period and ovulation can vary, while the number of days between ovulation and the start of your next period is usually always 14 days. So if you ovulated between the 27th and 29th your two week wait would be just ending. I would definitely test again in a couple days if AF doesn't show up.

    oh yes, please keep testing!

I tested negative, too - got a little sad, had a few drinks, jumped in a hot tub, ate a greek salad and then when a few days went by and no AF I decided to try again and POSITIVE! I still can't believe it, it came up so late

@ADMBoston:Something VERY similar happened to us in January.  My period was two weeks late.  I took SIX home pregnancy tests---all negative.   Went to my doctor for a test and was still negative.  Auntie flo showed up a week later......I'm VERY regular.  So "something" happened, but it did not result in a baby :(

Stick it out a few more days and repeat the test.  I hope you're outcome is different than ours!!

UPDATE: tested this morning -- still negative!

    and still no period.

i read on the HPT instructions that they say to test 19 days after teh day you think you conceived - which would i guess be saturday for me.

I'm going to test again friday if I don't get my period - and maybe call my DR. THis is so weird! I got a positive LH surge on my OPK so I feel like I must have ovulated. and i have NEVER skipped a period

@ADMBoston: My background is so similar to yours!  I've been off BC for 7 months, cycles have averaged 32 days, but 2 cycles have been 40 including the last one which was #6.  I thought everything was regular but apparently is wasn't.  It seems that this month will be another long one.  I think I O'd on day 23ish.  I went test crazy last month but then AF showed on Day 40.  So it could go either way for you this month.  Just wait as long as possible to test again for your sanity.  Good luck!

Make sure you test first thing in the morning. This is when your urine is most comcentrated and most likely to detect the Hcg to give you a positive test.

@Mrs Green Grass: wow! so similar! i know - i'm waiting till friday or saturday (that will be 42-43 days), and trying not to think about it! and yeah, it could be a random 40 day month - annoying! my body is messing with me! best of luck to you too! are you waiting to test?

and thanks @miss baker - definitely only testing in the morning when I first wake up!

@ADMBoston: I'm near the beginning of my TWW...but I think I'm going to start calling it a 3 week wait!  It seems like a lot of people don't get a positive test right away, so good luck!

@Mrs Green Grass: THREE WEEK WAIT! Haha! I agree with that! We'll see how good I can be to hold off testing till three weeks, but all of these posts about no period but negative tests make me realize that I should probably wait!

didn't want to test today - will test either Thursday or Friday morning -- maybe I should just wait until Friday?

If you can wait, then wait!
Or else you could just decide to test every morning until you either get a positive or AF.....I think at this point, I would be super anxious to know, so I would have a hard time waiting :)  do you have the super sensitive tests??

@Janna19: I know - not testing right when I woke up this morning was tough -- I think I will probably test tomorrow.

I have one of the pharmacy brand "Early Results" tests... i think it's senstive!? I don't know - I'll have to check the box about how much HcG needs to be in my system. But the box is touting "Know 5 days before your missed period" -- Yeah right!

@ADMBoston: just thought I'd throw this in there - I bought the early prediction expensive test (first response, I think..) because it said you could test up to 5 days sooner. The first test it showed up on was a Target Brand test! I've heard the Dollar Store ones are even better but I don't know of a Dollar Store near me. :)

@LoveHappy: i tested - STILL NEGATIVE!!! and still no sign of period. i think i may call my doctor tomorrow -- worth it? I'm definitely going to test again in the morning. what would the Doc do anyway, blood test?

@lilsneakers -- i have a generic, store version of EPT or something - not sure where a dollar store is, maybe I'll look for one today, and try a different kind of test!

I'll post tomorrow with an update ;) -- ugh, frustrating! what makes this really hard is i think my husband is really excited - he keeps asking me if I got my "P" yet (as he calls it) and makes jokes about "the baby".....  and I'm nervous I'm not pregnant then he'll be disappointed - I'm trying to keep my hopes in check, thinking every time i go to the bathroom i'll have my "P".......

    ** UPDATE.

Hi all --- Still no period. Called my Doc today. They thought this was unusual given my history/timing/etc -- but said to wait one more week. Next Thurs/Fri if I still don't have my period or a positive test, they want me to come in.

SO.... I have been semi-obsessing, I'm going to focus on work & other things, maybe test again Sunday if I still don't have my P, and just wait. Ugh - not fun!

My sister in law freaked me out yesterday and told me something was probably wrong (had to tell her because I've seen her the last few days and haven't been drinking)... but I'll just ignore that & wait it out.

@ADMBoston: Sorry to hear you still have no answer, that must be so frustrating!  Unless your SIL is your doctor, she has no idea what is going on with you, so try not to let her worry you.  If your dr was worried she/he would have had you come in earlier than end of next week.

    fingers crossed!

@ADMBoston: Wow, how frustrating!!! I hope you get an answer soon. I think calling your doc was a good idea. It's probably a good idea to go in by the end of next week if you still don't have an answer, just to see if they can figure out what is up.

That's cute that your husband is excited, but I know what you mean about the pressure.

I hope you get an answer soon!!!!

@Janna19: thanks janna! she is NOT a Dr, she went through a lot trying to get pregnant (multiple miscarriages, but ultimately IVF that resulted in twins) so i'm not surprised by her worry....

i guess I'll cancel my all day drinking plans for marathon monday here in boston! ha.

Hi Bees --- OK. My period is now about 12/13 days late - no sign of period, having some pregnancy-like symptoms AND I got a negative HPT this morning!

I will go see the doc at the end of the week. Seems unlikely that I am going to get a positive HPT, but I guess we'll see.

I'm not having painful cramps like I usually get before AF, I have been having dull mild cramping off & on for about 2 weeks. My boobs are getting really sore.

I did get a Positive LH surge on an OPK March 27th, so i'm assuming I ovulated? Perhaps I didn't -- although i have NEVER missed a period, and been off BCP for like 8 or 9 months.

i also started to worry about an ectopic - but I don't have any of those symptoms, and I haven't had a spot of blood.

OK -- sorry, stream of thought -- this is such a mystery & I'm having a hard time with the whole being patient & waiting thing! ha...

any advice? think it's possible I'm pregnant?

@ADMBoston: I have read other forums where for some women, the HPT never detected pregnancy for some reason...  My positive result came in after my period was late even with the tests that are supposed to be good for days before your expected AF.

Maybe you are pregnant but the tests give you false negatives?

@ADMBoston: Can you go see the doctor and get a blood test? I would! Perhaps that can pick up the pregnancy (if you are), that the home tests can't? Sounds promising to me! :)

@ADMBoston: I was a week late with one of my periods and it started the day I called to make the appointment.  I also had about 5 negative HPT's...

There's a lot of possibilities, but it's more common to get a false negative than a false positive.  Also, the tests at the dr's office are more sensitive than the HPT's.  AND they can do a blood test that will answer the question as to whether you are or aren't pregnant as well as possible reasons why you ARE late.

good luck!!!!!  Fingers crossed for you!

My sister tested negative 3 or 4 times at home.  The dr. told her it must be some kind of hormonal imbalance that could happen, stress etc.  But she kept saying somethings not right.... My nephew is now 22 years old.  I would definetaly go for the blood test thats how she found out i guess she didn't have enough hormones (?) to detect it with just her urine.

Good luck! I was just like Lilasneakers. I ordered pregnancy tests online from fertilityfriend.com, they're really cheap (cause they're just a dip-stick, not a pee-stick) and detect levels of 20 mg HCG. Which is half the levels of the First Response test, so you get a more accurate result sooner. If things don't work out this month, you may think about ordering a few. I was a week late, and got a super faint positive that took me two days (and tests) to notice. Hope you get lucky soon!

thanks ladies for the support! it's so hard to NOT think about it all of the time!

I started having some brown spotting today -- feeling like it might be the start of my period. I'll let you know ... it's weird though, i feel different -- i feel like this is probably my period. UGH.

WHY it's like 2 and a half weeks late is a total mystery to me. I'm at day 50 since my last period.  I'll keep waiting & see what happens....
