How much are your alterations running you? Not sure what to budget for this? What if its only minor alterations -please help, meeting seamstress tonight just want to get a good idea!
I got my dress at David's Bridal and I needed a bustle (just a simple one), plus a hem. However, my hem had to be taken up at the waist because of its design. It was $200. I don't think it was extra from the hem though because they quoted me the price before they knew how they'd have to hem it. I know many of the larger bridal shops in my area (NE PA) are similarly priced.
i got a bustle, bra cups, and alterations to the lace overlay on my dress. in regards to the lace overlay, they are taking in the sides of the dress around my waist and hips. for these alterations, i was charged $210 in the los angeles area.

I'm doing a whole hem, bustle (for a longer-than-standard cathedral length gown), taking in the WHOLE bust which has a lot of hand embroidery, beading, etc....I can't imagine at this point how much it will cost but I'll let you know on Wednesday when I go. They charge hourly for their services.....
$150 for hemming and bustle.. she's also steaming it and fixing a few loose threads for free. The dress part already fits perfectly, I'm just really short.

$200 in Westchester NY for a 3 point bustle, hemming, taking out the waist and taking in the top a bit. Note that i negotiated the $200 with the shop when i bought the dress. When i brought it back moths later, they wanted to charge me $300, but since I had negotiated the price with them, they had to give it to me for $200.
I had the hem taken up, a French bustle and taken in in the bodice a couple sizes . . . my bill was $975! (According to a talented seamstress friend who looked at the dress post wedding, she said what I had done was not harder the normal and should not have resulted in that kind of pricing). I was floored and it was all I could do not to cry when I paid for it. I picked up my dress he day before the wedding so had no choice but to pay and get out of there. It still irks me!
I paid $60 to get the waist taken in a touch, shoulder straps shortened, and a 7-point bustle put in for my giant ballgown. This was in the Providence/RI area. She would've charged more, but I passed on getting it pressed, since I was taking it on an airplane the next week.
Thank you all, I got a good quote from the seamstress and she was extremely helpful so I feel good about it! She quoted me at 250-300, for taking up the hem, bringing in the sides, and I have a really delicate fabric so the bustle is the hardest part! Oh and she is making me some hankerchiefs as gifts too!
Chicago far west suburbs... bra cups, moving the "piano" (the piece that covers your back in a corset back), shortening the corset ties, bringing the very top of the front bodice in to prevent people from looking down my dress, small hem, overbustle... $220.
