my fiance is getting 2 rings - a white gold one and a titanium one. the white gold cause its fancier - the titanium for everyday use b/c he scratches things easily. the white gold and titanium have similar but not exact same design though engraving is the same - we used designbands.com and you can PM me for more details - they have the BEST highly recommended customer service. VERy pleased with my results - they do free engraving as well. titanium does not scratch, white gold WILL. i personally can't afford platinum right now - but he can so he bought my band in platinum - so i went for the white gold. i;ve seen white gold scratch and "fade" so i complied and got him the second one even though originally i was against having "two" rings for him just because i am old fashioned. i hope that helps!
My fiancee wants a tough scratch-proof metal that won't tarnish easily. He doesn't like the bright white of either white gold or platinum and initially gravitated towards the darker titanium, which also happens to be a scratch resistant metal. However, when he tried on the titanium bands, he didn't like how light the metal felt. Instead of white gold, platinum, or titanium, he's planning on getting a wedding band made of tungsten, which has the scratch resistance and a nice weight.
my husband chose a tungsten ring too, from benchmark rings:
it's a good weight, not too heavy, not too light, it's really durable, and it was pretty affordable. if you're in LA, i know a good jeweler who sells them! :)
Can be refinished/repolished at any time. Any knicks or dents is just a misplacement of metal, not actual loss. It's rare, very strong, and very substantial.
It can also be resized if needed which cannot be said of some other metals.
I got my FI the five row platinum band from Tiffany's, the price was very reasonable considering the price of platinum... Everywhere else wanted at least twice as much for a similar platinum band. We had considered titanium or tungsten but because he is in law enforecement we decided against it, they usually don't have the capability to cut those metals off in the field, usually only in the ER. We also decided to bite the bullet and get the platinum ring now instead of upgrading because we didn't want to waste the money on a ring he will wear for a few years at most. We had the BEST experience at Tiffany's, they really took care of us and didn't try to sell us on anything more expensive or question what we wanted like eveywhere else we went. It's now wrapped up in a pretty blue box in the safe until the wedding day and he couldn't be happier with his selection!

We went through our jeweler, and chose a platinum band in a comfort fit design. The middle portion is a matte finish, and the edges are a shiny finish. We also got a titanium one for him to wear when he works out, or on other random casual days. He's happy with both of them....especially the comfort fit of the platinum ring.
We are getting palladium for his, though we considered titanium, tungsten, and platinum. Chose it for its similar appearance and durability to platinum for a much lower price. Durability was the biggest one for us because we're getting custom story rings, so any wear is irreversible damage.
For the record, the story about not being able to cut titanium rings off is a myth. Standard ring shears will be able to cut through titanium rings, it'll just take 30sec longer =) And tungsten won't cut, but slight pressure will cause it to break. Actually, that's probably something important to know about tungsten- if you whack it hard against something, it might break.
He loves the celtic knotwork. (Trust me it took be a crap load of searching to find a celtic style ring of some kind that didn't look tacky!) And he says it's very, very comfortable! He's an electrician so he can't wear it a lot of times at work. He just slips it on the clip he keeps his keys on. The white gold wouldn't hold up to being on his key clip. Good luck and have fun. Searching for his ring was one of my favorite parts of the wedding planning!
We also got a tungsten ring, fiance is a construction manager and loves to build things in his workshop. He also loves the heavy weight of it. True, there is no resizing, originally we got one too big, just sent it back and got a new one. He wanted plain plain plain. We got it on Overstock.com, and it was 80 bucks with shipping. Haha. Quite the deal for me
My guy got himself a white gold ring. It's hand carved so a hard metal wasn't an option as he wanted something different but without a a diamond in it.
White gold, platinum, or titanium? Can anyone break down the advantages and disadvantages? What is your fiancee getting?
