My budget for flowers isn't huge so I'm thinking of using carnations as the centerpieces- what does everyone think of this? Do you think it can look classy? Thanks!
Carnations can totally look classy and that's coming from someone who has never really liked the look of them. I would have never guessed that I'd be using them in my own wedding until I found this inspiration on theknot.com:
At my florist appointment, I looked at many different flowers, and as a person without a favorite flower, I found myself strangely drawn to the carnation. It fit what I was looking for: came in soft pink and was "fluffy." So, all of my wedding party has carnations as bouquets and bouts. Nothing wrong with it, and hopefully no one will think less of it. I'm just not a rose kind of girl! It can definitely done in a classy fashion, and there are so many colors to choose from.
Oh my gosh you can definitely pull it off! I have seen GORGEOUS arrangements of carnations. I think the key is to keep it monotone; this creates a really continuous, fluffy look. If you google "carnation bed", the first image that comes up is a really pretty flat bed of pink carnations on which the bride placed the escort cards. It looks fantastic! I think this could be incorporated into a centerpiece if you're ok with having a really low one. Otherwise the red pomander picture posted above is really nice too!! GL :)
BIG, BIG fan of carnations. You can make really pretty centerpieces with them and they look gorgeous. Haliwood is right, if you keep them montone they look fabulous.
I always hear people refering to carnations with memorial flowers. I have no idea why because they are beautiful! I originally was going to go with peony's but now I'm thinking of using carnations myself. And after reading this post....I'm sold. Carnations are the way to go!
I think carnations can be beautiful. They are long-lasting and , I've also heard before that they never lose their petals, so that's could be some pretty cool symbolism for a wedding (Long-lasting love, never losing love for each other, etc.)

I made some here.
They take about 70 -80 of them to make a 6 inch pomander.

But Yes, I totally agree...carnations can be awesome!
