Food for kids

posted 2 months ago in Beehive

The fiancee and I are leaning towards allowing guests to bring their children to the dinner reception. The hotel offers a separate menu for children - chicken strips for $30/child. It's less than half the cost of the adult meal. What I'm not sure is for what ages to default this? Does it make sense to assume we do not need to feed children under 2 and serve the adult menu to anyone 12 and older? Would it be tacky to mention this on our website under the FAQs?

I would definitely ask the hotel if they already specify the age limits, they may have their own set of rules. Ours is allowing children 6 and under to be free (yey!) and children 7-20 to order an adult meal but their price will be $30 less than the price of an adult meal, to account for the alcohol they won't be drinking. I would assume parents of children 2 and under would bring the necessary food for them, but I would also definitely mention something to that effect on your website. People appreciate knowing the situation ahead of time.

You may want to ask your venue at what age they consider "children's menu". I know at mine it is anyone 10 and under (I would have thought 12 and under). We are not ordering food for children 2 and under, it makes not sense to pay for a whole meal for them, when they won't eat a whole meal. Not mention, having little ones like that, at least in my family, their parents are going to pack all kinds of snacks for them anyways.

Another thing you may want to think about, is at some places, you HAVE to pay for a meal regardless of the age, if they are sitting in a chair. So the little ones sitting in high chairs you wouldn't have to pay for, but how many 2 year olds still fit in a "restaurant" sized high chair? Just something to think about.

We are not asking for any kids 10 and under, I'm just assuming they are not going to want to eat flambe, and getting them a kids meal!!!!
