I should add: Like I said, pipe and drape isn't an option.
Neither are cheaper decorations, like candles--no fire, nothing that has to be picked up/it has to be biodegradable. And they have a TON of restrictions on putting anything on the walls (they're ugly already, so what would it matter?!?!)
Well I have to be honest I can't tell you to change your whole wedding date and venue without knowing if this will hurt you in the wallet or mess up your other vendors you have scheduled. I.e. photographer etc. My suggestion would be to use a plant in front of the windows to cover up the gas tank you show in your picture. Also, I saw on stylemepretty a wedding where the ceilings were really tall and draping wasn't an option. They used large balloons instead to help mask the walls. It was very pretty. You should check it out. It was a post about a week ago.
I did see that stylemepretty post, even mentioned it to my mom, but she thinks balloons will be too cheap. And thanks for your plant suggestion! We thought about it, but those aren't actually windows right there... they're doors, so it makes it harder :(
And our vendors can change dates (it's just one day)--they're all really awesome and from areas kind of outside the city, so it's easier on them.

I... am totally rethinking my wedding style. I know! I'm crazy!
The more I think about it, the more this huge evening party stresses me out. I really don't like my venue--it's pretty ugly on the inside, and the more we talk about what to do to "cover it up," the more flaws it seems to have! And i'm not talking about little chips of paint missing from the exterior--I'm talking the fact that not only is it open to the public still, but we just found out tour boats will be leaving DURING MY CEREMONY (I'm having it at a maritime center/marina)! EW! Not to mention the fact that there's a HUGE gas pump type thing outside... let me find you some pictures...
See the gas pump in the back? (if not, click this link).
Or how about those lovely walls/pipes from the ceiling?!?!
They're 16+ foot ceilings, so the pipe and drape option (which I thought we'd have before) is out.
I'm sure part of the problem is that I live in Charleston so we have tons of breathtaking venues and my style isn't "nautical" at all... ugh. But all these venues are also rented for my date--of course, it's May in Charleston and people can't just seem to stop doing DWs here!!!
Advice, bees! Change my (horrendously ugly) Saturday night reception to an Sunday brunch, or keep it as is--and if you say keep it, how to decorate?
