That's amazing! I have 2 quilts my deceased mother made. It's such an honor to be the recipient of such a thoughtful and labor of love gift. I'm excited for you! Post pics when you get it, if you don't mind!!!
@amnystik: That is such a great gift! My grandma (mom's side) was the quilt maker in the family, sometimes I wish she was still here because I know she would have made me one for the wedding. That is a keepsake that you will have forever, so beautiful! Post pics when you get it :-)
That's so awesome! You'll have to post pics when you pick it up!
Aww what a blessing!
I love quilts, they are seriously like an heirloom! I bet it will be beautiful and remind you of her often! Post some pics if you get it today ;)
Thats awesome!!! That will mean more to you than anything else!! and you get to keep that FOREVER!! You could even hand it down to your kids! :)
Thats awesome! Definitely post pics when you get it. I am a quilter and I love giving quilts as gifts because I think they're beautiful and comfortable and you can really tell how much work someone put into your gift. One of my favorite wedding gifts was actually a quilt from a couple of sisters who attend the church I grew up in.
Awesome! My mother had a quilt made for DH and I and gave it to me at my bridal shower. It has our names and wedding date embroidered on the corner. I cried when I unwrapped it.
That's such an amazing, thoughtful gift!
Even more excited now!
I have quilts from when I was born that were made by my great grandmother! They're actually being fixed by my grandma now, seeing they went through MANY forts & sleep overs through the years.
I just love them so much!
I will DEFINITELY post pics..... I may even have to put it out on my bed just to enjoy it the next few days
@amnystik: Can't wait to see it! How special!
How sweet:) My aunt made my dh and I a quilt for our wedding and it's beautiful! It's always at the foot of our bed.
The homemade gifts are the best! Well usually..
We received a picture of flowers with our name and wedding dates - all handsewn. Not typically our style, but we love it because it was handmade by DH's relative (great aunt).
My Grandmother gave us a blanket she crocheted. It's more of an afghan and looks like something you'd use in a wheelchair. At least she did it in colors that match our house! No idea what I'll do with it, and I really don't talk to her (family issues), but I will cherish it because she made it and I do have some decent memories of her.
Enjoy that quilt! You should post a picture once you get it ;)
That's really a cool gift. My mom is a quilter. Not everyone realizes how much work goes into them. I have a much bigger appreciation for quilts since my mom started quilting.
And here it is! I LOVE IT!
I did find out that this quilt isn't "quilting" but rather it's "tacking"
I definitley want to learn more about this b/c after getting this I'm really excited to be able to give something so precious to our kids and future family! =)
without further ado...
I love the color. It's so meaningfull to have something made by a family member, and quilts are timeless.
Beautiful! I didn't get a quilt for a wedding present but my God-parents did give us a beautiful (and very expensive) woollen blanket for our bed (some of the wool came from their flock of sheep).
There's just something really lovely about being given a blanket or quilt for a wedding present :-)
That's awesome! My mom's close friend has made me several quilts and I love them all so much. She gave FI one the first time she met him, to kind of say "welcome to the family, you're one of us now" and we use it ALL the time.
Very nice! What a beautiful gift, and how sweet it was that she put so much time and love into it. :)
So pretty! My DH's aunt gave me a quilt for my bridal shower and it almost brought tears to my eyes, it's just such a thoughtful gift!
Cute quilt! And of course it means more because your grandmother made it. I'm sure she's honored that her gift means so much to you - I wish more modern couples would appreciate gifts such as this!
very pretty...my mother used to knit before she passed I wish I would have kept some of the covers she made us....
That's so great! My grandma used to make afghans so we have some of those left and they're very special to us. I got one at my bridal shower that my mom had been saving since her death. Apparently they decided I was to get this specific afghan for my wedding!

Just wanted to share how excited I am for the gift I'm getting ready to get!
Shortly after the wedding my grandma (dad's side) called me up to meet her at Hobby Lobby to pick out fabric..... she was making us a handmade quilt ON TOP OF the awesome crockpot she'd already given us.
I of course picked out some neutral colored dainty fabrics with a future guest bedroom in mind and figured I would get to see the end product for Christmas...
Well.... yesterday she gave me a ring to see if she could bring it by TODAY!
I am SO excited!
I know it's not the most "extravagant" gift, but knowing that her time and love went into it and having more understanding that she won't always be around just brings me so much joy to have it for the years to come.
I'm so happy I just had to share =)
