When I think 80s, I always think neon lights, black furniture and good music. lol.
I would definitely get some lighting and light hte room in bright pinks, purples, greens, etc.
Can you do 80s themed cocktails? Something involving ecto cooler? Or day glow colors?
Too bad you can't get White Mountain coolers any more. That is the most 80s drink I can think of.
What is you put a few rubic's cubes around so people can play with them.
Check out the boom box centerpiece (if you have pub tables or maybe one for the bar)
The cocktail hour will be outside in a garden veranda setting but it will be starting to get dark around that time so the uplights may work. Also, I love the day glow colored cocktails! Should we scratch the idea about displaying our baby/ kid pictures? They ideas you guys are giving me makes me think of a club which sounds so cool, and the pictures probably won't fit in.
maybe you could still display the photos, but set them up in an 80's way-Maybe make a stand up board-use silver foil paper, use LPs and put your photos in the middle of each LP ?
I actually love the idea of you putting out pictures of you guys in the 80s. Do it!
You could use the 'famous' 80's movies - like: Say Anything, Sixteen Candles, Breakfast Club... those to me SCREAM 80's!
Hand out retro sunglasses to your guests!
I know this may be WAY cheesy, but how about a prom queen and king type thing. I always think of cheesy prom teeny boppers when I think about the 80's...and the kick ass music.
Coke bar and mirrored table-tops?
...seriously though, how about just making buttons as favors that say things referencing the 80s:
"That's so very"
"I want candy"
"I'm a Jellicle cat"
"greed is good"
"every rose has its thorns"
"Material Girl"
etc.
What about displaying the baby/kid pictures on two pages of an open trapper keeper? Could be cute.
80's party favors would be fun like the shades or neon bracelets.
You should serve Purple Passion. They started making it again, as a matter of fact, it sounds kind of good right now. You could do an eights movie montage or movie trivia. You could just put quintessential 80's images around the room. And use lots of neon.
Reading of all of this takes me back, sigh. Remember "Gag me with a spoon, fur sure" LMAO
Oh, and mullets, you can't have the 80's without mullets.

Hi Ladies! I really need your help. I know you guys are always so creative so hopefully you can help me out because I'm at a loss.
My fiance really wants a 80's themed cocktail hour. We both were born and raised in that decade plus we really love the music so thought it would be something fun and different to do. So far, we're having a keyboard player play 80's music and that's about it. What else can we do to drive the theme home? I want people to get it..lol...but I don't want it to become tacky or loud. The rest of the wedding is really elegant, understated and classic.
I've search all over the internet and am getting no inspriation. We've thought about showcasing pictures of us as kids with cute sayings but I can't even figure what the cute saying should say?! Please help me out girls...I want people to understand the 80's theme.
