Some of my DIY projects requires me to glue some regular weight paper onto thicker paper. When i try to do it, the glue gets all lumpy and the lighter weight paper gets very wrinkly. I would like to apply glue to the entire surface (so double sided tape or glue dots won't work) Do you have any suggestions on how to do it?
My suggestion would be to lather the thicker paper with the glue stick in the approximate area of lighter paper. Then glue around the edges of the lighter paper and put into place. Using your thumb, flatten out the lighter paper onto the heavier paper. I hope that works, for it's been working for me!
(Ps. if you paper is getting really wrinkly, perhaps try less glue. You are using a glue stick, right? For white glue is guaranteed to wrinkle paper.)
I've had good success with glue stick for this type of job. The glue stick in particular was a contact cement stick by UHU, though a standard stick might work just as well. I glued newspaper cutouts to thick card with no problem with the contact cement stick.
Another option is a light mist of spray glue, but spray glue can be a lot of work to keep it off surfaces you don't want glue-y.
oooh, spray glue or spray adhesive! I used to use this stuff when matting paper onto matboard for poster presentations. just lay out a bunch of newspaper or butcher paper (if your paper is light-colored - want to avoid newspaper smear!) on the floor, lay your papers on top of it, and follow the spray adhesive directions for getting a good coat. make sure you have plenty of ventilation, though, because it is aerosol.

posted by mrsbear 3 months agoSpray glue is really great, but it kind of gets everywhere and it's a little smelly. I used a glue stick for most of my wedding DIY projects.
